“There is danger
in the comfort zone”*
where complacency can create
an apathetic vacancy
allowing us to fall asleep
at the wheel of our life.
Yet what arises
when we don’t shy away
from surprises of all sizes
are curiosity and wonder
and even a thunderous wake up
call that might just jolt us
out of bed and mightily propel us
full steam ahead
Toward something beyond
our set in stone
and forlorn outworn habitual
knowings and doings chugging along
while countless unanticipated adventures
might be brewing and percolating
beneath the surface of all
we have routinely accepted
All those uninspected inklings
that just might ignite and take flight
in the light of whatever new
awarenesses are twinkling over there
beckoning us from the corner of
a lazy hazy half-closed eye
Tempting new vistas and untethered
variables worthy of a second glance
and perhaps the riskiness
of taking a chance or a deep
dive or a swift leap into the vast
mystery that abounds
and surrounds us.
Waiting too long for our sometimes reticent
aliveness to guide us into the great
unknown twists and turns
of a beckoning twilight zone
might be a waste of all too much
precious time when our hearts
are already primed and designed
for opening to miracles
*words spoken to me by Jerry Kushel
Loved this it tells me not to be afraid to try something new. You never know what you may be missing out on! And everyday miracles.
Wow, Dennis Pitocco I had forgotten about this poem. I love when my own words come back unbidden to remind me of who and how I want to be. I wrote this at a moment when decisiveness and action were needed. I was reminding myself to keep on keeping on. It’s a message that remains as relevant to me right now as it was then. Thank you for posting.
Always a pleasure to share your inpiring words with the universe, my friend!
