We all strive for greatness in one form or another and rightfully so. However, some get it while most others don’t. It makes one wonder what is so different in the DNA of all these wildly successful people all around us. Are they really Super Humans born to make us J or is it some kind of a joke that nature played on us in its harsh tone?
We can’t help but notice the way some individuals acquire success in a particular way or form, e.g. exceptionally bright students topping the class year-after-year, an entrepreneur expanding his/her business across the globe, scientists and innovators, researchers, engineers and technology enthusiasts creating new systems, products, methodologies, medicines, machines, software, devices and a multitude of other conveniences to add value to our lives or philanthropists that have taken happily given away Billions out of their hard and smart-earned wealth.
Almost invariably, one thing we find common across the board, is that none of these outstanding individuals ever worked with this ultimate level of fame as his or her destination in life; rather they consider it as continuation of their life’s journey.
One thing they all pursued, with amazing dexterity, sometimes even at the cost of pleasure, friends and relationships is their passion. They set themselves some goals based upon their own beliefs and gave vent to their creative spirits with full vigour howsoever possible, with an exceptionally high degree of passion. They became self-aware enough not to let others’ opinions distract them from their strong beliefs as means to their goals.
Keeping the above scenario in mind, would it be out-of-place to say that each one of them became an ‘Achiever’ first and foremost, an achiever at smaller accomplishments that gave rise to bigger and better challenges that kept propelling them further on their chosen path?
Once we agree to this systematic approach to Global Recognition by way of self-realization of an Achiever, we are forced to look into the basic DNA of an Achiever: what does it compose of, how does it come into being, what is the criteria to become an achiever and so on and so forth.
My perception of an ‘Achiever’ is as follows:
Not necessarily a filthy rich individual with all the World’s luxuries at his or her command. One does not need to be endowed with super-natural capabilities and no need for Millions of Followers whether on Social Media or in real life.
As a matter of fact, we do not need to just define an ‘Achiever’ but it is absolutely possible for us, the ‘Common-man and woman’, the Ordinary Individuals, to take necessary pre-emptive action, make minor changes in our daily routine and acquire the necessary mindset to become one ourselves as well:
Some of the examples could be summed up as follows:
Any given individual who takes pride in the job at hand, any assigned job, that helps bring out his/her creativity in an appreciable way and does perform not just per expectations BUT goes way beyond, to the level of ‘Outstanding’, deserves to be recognized as an ‘Achiever’
An individual with the mindset of a Daily Goal-setter and enjoys new challenges that help him/her not only set but also strive to attain more formidable Goals day-in and day-out
My definition of an ‘Achiever’ includes any one with an unquenchable thirst for more challenging, more awe-inspiring goals far, far away from the beaten track, without ever looking for a comfort zone
One endowed with an analytical mind, that helps him or her stay focused on the cause dear to his/her heart at all times, has every right to be acknowledged as an ‘Achiever’ since this person can manage to stay away from all the unnecessary distractions in daily life and continue on the chosen path with measurable success, each step of the way
One with a magnetic personality and spirit of helpfulness, in my thinking, is reasonably well-qualified to be recognized as an ‘Achiever’ as well due to the fact that others look up to him/her for guidance in their hour of need.
Dear Readers, your valuable, constructive input will be much appreciated!
Is it traits, is it vision, is it capability or competency? Being a leader and an achiever is heavily rooted in confirmation bias. Success naturally comes from being part of a group, a tribe of like people that are already successful in some way. To be successful, find that group that best fits you.
Hi Chris, I like the way you challenge the thought-process! The recipe for success is not an easy one to describe and there are no inherent warranties either. It takes all of the things that you mentioned PLUS a lot more. Just joining a group of already successful people does not guarantee success in any form or manner. You need to work hard and smart to get there. It takes a lot of sacrifices and discomforts, inconveniences and troubles to get out of the rut and proceed on the path of success. Unfortunately, that’s the reason so many people are left out!
In a way, “achiever” defies definition because as individuals we define achievement and success with different benchmarks and a wide variety of parameters. I might even tell someone I see them as highly successful or as having achieved greatness when they themselves don’t see it. I would like to define achievement as having become comfortable in my own skin and knowing that I have done my best – which of course is all I can do.
Yes, that too qualifies you as an ‘achiever’, Ms Jane! You grow in life by way of smaller achievements that help build momentum while generating the passion within to outdo yourself in some small way each step of the way! Such personality trait helps one stay away from distractions and create his/her own place in society.
Thank You for your excellent input!
