Well, the holidays are over for now, and I’m thinking about traveling somewhere exciting yet restful for vacation. Perhaps some place with a good story to tell. Do you like to visit historical places? When you see the word “Yesteryear,” what comes to mind?
I would like to invite you to open your imagination and go on a short trip with me, traveling to an earlier time. This month’s photograph is of an old mill near Alley Springs, Missouri, built in 1894.
In my imagination, I see a bustling mill, grinding grain; horse drawn wagons unloading wheat and corn, while others load bags of flour and corn meal. I see farmers and their wives visiting Alley Springs making purchases, and children running along the spring but not venturing tool close for fear of falling into the rushing water.
As we travel the vast United States, as in other parts of the world, there are many areas that have historic towns. Have you ever walked around in an area with historic buildings and felt the presence of earlier residents? I have never visited Tuscany; however, having watched movies such as Under the Tuscan Sun, I have traveled vicariously there as well as many other historical points throughout the world.
I have visited the Taj Mahal in Agra, India. The structure, built in 1632 by Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, is so magnificent it is hard to describe it in words. When I walked the grounds, I could almost feel the energy of those who had walked there before me.
