There has been a lot of debate recently about women’s rights. The issue seems to have been a major factor in the recent protest marches.
Some argue that President Trump hates women. That theory seems to stem from a couple of tiffs he had with women during the campaign and some off-color comments (locker room talk) that were recorded many years ago. Personally, if I had been he, I would have passed on getting sucked into a war of words with news anchors and entertainers. As to the locker room talk, most men have made similar comments and a lot of women have had off-color conversations too. Hardly something that is indicative of deep-rooted attitudes. In looking at those that he surrounds himself with, personally and professionally, I find it hard to agree that he hates females.
The bigger issue perhaps is women’s rights. I don’t know anyone that would say that women shouldn’t have the same rights as men. Of course, then we get down to the specifics which seem to focus on a woman’s right to abortion. The anti-abortion factions say it is legalized murder of a defenseless baby. The reality is that this is a moral issue and it is tough to legislate moral standards. Okay, I’m a male so one could say that as is so typical, I don’t understand the issue. Perhaps. But, I find it hard to reconcile that it is okay to abort an unborn baby, but it is illegal to kill it once it is out of the womb and breathing on its own. Does that really make sense to anyone? Wouldn’t it be better to avoid the pregnancy if a child wasn’t wanted? Maybe put it up for adoption? There are no shortage of options to do either.
Granted there are conditions that could, at least in my mind, justify an abortion. Incest, rape, or mothers life would certainly be factors. Unfortunately, though, I don’t see any real inclination by either side to find a compromise.
Another of the many issues where factions of our society seem to have hardened into positions that are not to be challenged or modified. The list is lengthy from gun control, to border security, to pipelines, to deporting illegals, to welfare, too……
