Who’s That Winner? The Nautilus Book Awards!

For those unfamiliar with the Nautilus Book Awards, it is one of the most prestigious awards offered to authors worldwide. The award is named for the nautilus shell – a symbol of wisdom and growth, much like the books it embraces. According to Wikipedia, Nautilus Award winners have included His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Deepak Chopra, Charles, Prince of Wales, and Desmund Tutu, to name just a few. And, the Nautilus Book Awards has just added three new authors to this esteemed list; Drs. Pia businesswomen, Jude Currivan, and Bob Atkinson.

As a fellow Nautilus Award winner, I had the pleasure of interviewing these authors on my Video Podcast, The Kat Kanavos Show. The YouTube interview is posted in its entirety at the bottom of the article for your viewing pleasure.

The Nautilus Book Awards are all about better books for a better world.

The award recipients are selected through a three-tier process presided over by an assembly of editors, professors, writers, librarians, publishers, schoolteachers, and bookstore owners. According to Wikipedia most Nautilus Awards have been granted to books from; major academic presses such as Stanford University Press, Princeton University Press, University of Michigan Press, University of California Press, Columbia University Press, and Michigan State University Press as well as large commercial publishers such as Penguin, W.W. Norton, Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Little, Brown. However, several independent presses, including Island and Bloomsbury, are represented in the registry of past awards. The social networks Goodreads and Librarything maintain lists of Nautilus Award recipient books on their websites.

What is the message thread that runs through the three recent award-winning books?

All three authors and winning books promoted the notion that we are not alone in the Universe. We are interconnected through Oneness, In-formation, and Positive Change from Natural Cycles.

What are the authors like who write the books?

Winning authors are everyday people who are also accomplished in their own right and share their accomplishments, hearts, and souls, in their work. They are visionaries, storytellers, mothers, fathers, our sisters, and brothers.

They are also our friends, mentors, teachers, and professors.

Dr. Robert Atkinson, Ph.D., is also Professor Atkinsons, a member of the Evolutionary Leaders Circle and an internationally recognized authority on life story interviewing personal mythmaking, and soul-making. He is professor emeritus of cross-cultural human development and religious studies at the University of Southern Maine and director of Story Commons.

What was the message in his book that caught the attention of the Nautilus judges?

His 2017 book, The Story of Our Time: From Duality to Interconnectedness to Oneness, (Sacred Stories Publishing; February 14, 2017) captures how far our evolving consciousness has brought us, over many millennia.

The Story of Our Time offers a hopeful big-picture perspective of the spiritual epoch we are living in so we won’t get too caught up in the conflicts of the moment. It alludes to the larger process of leading us to a purposeful outcome. The book’s story defines who we are as a “story-telling species.” The story carries a power that transports and transforms us. Traditionally, the health of a community depended upon knowing their story and keeping that story current.

Dr. Currivan began life as a coal miner’s daughter and has experienced multidimensional realities from an early age, has traveled to more than 70 countries and worked with wisdom keepers from many traditions.

Dr. Jude Currivan is a cosmologist, planetary healer, and futurist and previously one of the most senior business women in the UK as CFO and on the Executive Boards of two major international companies. She currently lives in Wiltshire, England, has a degree in physics from Oxford University specializing in quantum physics and cosmology, and a doctorate in archaeology from the University of Reading in the UK researching ancient cosmologies. Dr. Currivan began life as a coal miner’s daughter and has experienced multidimensional realities from an early age, has traveled to more than 70 countries and worked with wisdom keepers from many traditions. She is a life-long researcher into the nature of reality and integrates leading-edge science, consciousness and universal wisdom teachings into a “wholistic-whole world-view.” Like Dr. Atkinson, she is a member of the Evolutionary Leaders circle.

Her award-winning book The Cosmic Hologram: In-formation at the Center of Creation (Inner Traditions; February 25, 2017) is a view of the cosmos, consciousness, and the role of human perceptions shaping what we call ‘reality.’ Her message is, “We are the universe- and it is a holographic universe.” The book offers hope during what has been described as “Our Consciousness Revolution.” Dr. Currivan molds reality into a compassionate and regenerative future by giving a scientific description and credibility to the most ancient awareness of our species, which states that we are inside and not separate from all that is. We are in fact shaping life even as it shapes us.

Dr. Pia Orleane, Ph.D., lives in Europe and her book Sacred Retreat: Using Natural Cycles to Recharge Your Life; (Bear & Company; September 12, 2017)) is the winner of the 2018 Nautilus Gold Award for Women’s Literature. She is a former practicing psychologist and recipient of an international award from Saybrook University for her research on the importance of natural cycles for life. She travels the world giving talks on the value of the divine feminine and natural cycles.

Dr. Orelane’s message offers us another way of seeing the world through the eyes of the sacred feminine wisdom.

The message in her well researched and documented book is how we might restore balance to our driven, radically unbalanced society and our stress-filled lives. It gives examples of how living more in harmony with Nature can affect our personal relationships. During the interview, Dr. Orleane gives in-depth examples of how we can embrace these practices to attain greater harmony in our daily life. Her message deepens and enhances your life by leading you to experience a closer relationship with your body, and interweaving your life with the rhythms of the natural world, the planet, and the cosmos.

“How did you become a Nautilus Book Award winner?” I have been asked concerning my Silver Award for Surviving Cancerland: Intuitive Aspects of Healing that shared my Alice in Wonderland-like Hero’s Journey of surviving illness using dreams for guidance.

“By writing with my heart and soul,” just as Pia Orleane, Jude Currivan, and Bob Atkinson did.

During the past twenty years, the Nautilus Book Award program has continued to gain prestige with authors and publishers around the world as it seeks, honors celebrates and promotes print books that inspire and connect our lives as individuals, communities, and global citizens. The three authors featured in this article wrote dynamic books with the goal of making a difference in the world that would inspire positive change. Please enjoy the interview:
