Sometimes I lay down in the dark, close my eyes and try to figure out what is wrong with the world. And it all keeps coming back to one thing. One thing that causes all the strife. One thing that causes all the hate. One thing that keeps most of us living in a state of fear.
I believe this one thing is the simple fact that we have not yet evolved sufficiently as a species to see that we are all one human race.
We segment the human race into sub-races: Asian, Black, Caucasian, red, whatever. We segment beliefs into religions and atheism. We segment the country’s populations into tribes. We segment women from men. We segment gay from heterosexual and all the pieces in between. We segment ideologies into factions. We segment overachievement from underachievement. And then we spend all our time and energy fighting for superiority in whatever segments we feel we belong to. We torture and kill. We destroy with fire and chemicals and bullets and explosives. We deceive with lies and propaganda trying to convert those we think are weak enough to be converted.
As a species, most of what the human race has become is adept at is conflict. But the same flaws we currently possess as a species are what is slowly but surely destroying us.
It is said that there is enough food produced in the world to feed two times the current population, yet half the people go hungry because some segments of our species run totally on greed.
There is enough energy available, especially now, to power the lives of every human being on the planet, yet half the people still live in conditions that are only slightly more advanced than our stone-age ancestors.
We elect governments to try and keep things running smoothly, but un-evolved behaviour turns these governments into the opposite of what they were intended to be. Graft, corruption, and fierce resistance to change are the hallmarks of most of the world’s governments.
Mass media exposes people to the suffering of the world on 24-hour news channels not to gain their sympathy, but to numb them to what’s going on.
One segment of our race is systematically working to turn the rest of us into drones, so we will work hard for shit compensation and they will get richer.
This is no longer just a radical viewpoint…it’s a fact of life.
Our lack of evolution as a species means that we are living in fear, instead of joy, and that the majority of us are simply here to serve the minority of those strong enough to take and hold control.
And where does it go from here? Can you see things getting better? Can you see bigots and racists and sexists and predators and the greedy suddenly decide that it should all be different? That they should change their ways and be part of the community of man that loves instead of hates, that gives instead of always taking, that practices fairness instead of exploitation?
I don’t think so. In order to evolve, we have to pretty much write off the present and even some of the near future and think about the long game. We need to teach our children and grandchildren to be honest, and kind, and loving human beings.
It all sounds kind of airy-fairy when you write it out like that. But like I said, I have been thinking about what’s wrong and so far, this is the only way I can think of to eventually correct it.
Maybe it’s just a pipe dream. Or maybe it’s doable. I don’t know. But what I do know is that if we keep on the current trajectory, we will eventually hit rock bottom, and that is not acceptable, because that will be the end of us all.
I like to think of myself as somewhat evolved, and I’m sure you do too. But the fact is that if we were all truly evolved, everything I have just said would simply not be true.
Something to think about.
Thanks for your comment, Deas. We can agree to disagree about the broader question of what’s wrong with the world. But we can agree on the world’s need to learn the lessons it needs to learn. But, you know, the world, at least this civilization, has has at a couple thousand years to learn those lessons and has failed miserably at it. Certainly there are a goodly number of people who live good live and work hard to do right by civilization. But there are also many who do the opposite, which means, they simply haven’t learned, and don’t seem to be all that willing to learn. Hence, I wake up with these crazy ideas about what’s wrong with the world. 0.02, right back.
Hi, Jim Murray.
A good ‘ kwestyun’. Thank you for presenting it.
My answer: There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with the world. It is PERFECT just the way it is right now for us to learn the lessons that we need to learn.”
So WHAT are those lessons????????????????????????
‘Those’ lessons will be different for many people but I suspect that there are some common threads running through most if not all of them. You have touched on a broad one which probably has many sub-sections to it, things like tolerance, acceptance, NON-judgement and, by NO means the ‘leastest’, UNCONDITIONAL love.
Another part of it might well be that the human race is just that, the human race. ANY differences of color, ethnicity, wealth, intellect, etc., etc., etc., are just that, differences. They do NOT make any of us less human, any more ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ or lessen an individual’s value to the whole race.
Still another part of it might well be that NONE of the material ‘stuff’ to which the great majority of us attach so much importance is in any way important at all and that the REALLY important things are NON-material.
Just a part of my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
