Alfred E Neuman
Is one of my favourite
constructs
He was the face
Of Mad Magazine
Which taught me about satire
At an early age
As I grew
I realized that
Alfred had also helped
Me to identify
Things like
Irony and hubris
And that old standby
Bullshit
Little did Alfred
(or myself) know
That the world
would eventually become
Chock a block
With irony and hubris
And bullshit
Mostly bullshit
But the boy scout
Creed, which I learned
from pack leader Neuman
Clearly stated that
Good scouts always carry
A pocket mirror,
To look at whenever
You forget who comes
First in the world
And good scouts
Always carry an eleven foot pole
For the things you would not
touch with a ten foot pole
Sage advice.
Alfred was my mentor
My hero, my big brother
He taught me that
Giving into harmless madness
And becoming one with
Your own insanity
Is the only way
To live worry free
And though
At times I have tended
to display moderate amounts
of intensity
At my core
I stay true to the motto
of Alfred E Neuman
What? Me Worry?
