The world lives in a state of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity).
The question that this post tries to answer is what about VUCA people who share the same traits? I also suggest VUCAT (the T stands for shrinking disposable time that is available to listen attentively).
You meet with people who are
Volatile– their mood swings rapidly from one extreme to another.
Uncertain– those people have no direction in their lives and lean with the wind directions. They are unpredictable people and dealing with them is a big task.
Complex– those people are difficult to understand and decide how to deal with them. You need to keep collecting information about them and then approach them cautiously. Small things irritate those people and they may erupt suddenly causing harm to the surroundings.
Ambiguous– you need to keep an eye on those people for they can become risky to deal with them. You need to experiment on how best to deal with them.
Noticing that we live in a world where people feel increased stress mounted by a feeling of having lesser times the patience and disposable time available to cater to the demands to deal safely with VUCA people is diminishing.
The analogy of dealing with VUCA people to that with unstable climates that keep changing fast may help in better dealing with VUCA people. Meeting the challenge of VUCA climates has led to great advances in developing creative ideas and innovative tools to forecast such climates. We cannot control the climate but we can improve our understanding of it. In doing so, we may move to new frontiers of development.
It is the same as dealing with VUCA people. They bring challenges for us to solve their mystery. We increase our resilience, and our intuition and build the skills of “reading” events before they happen if we deal with VUCA people.
Do you feel dissatisfied dealing with them and even frustrated? This too can have positive effects.
The coincidence is that I read a post that shares the same view. The key to economic prosperity is in the organized creation of dissatisfaction. If everyone were satisfied, no one would want to buy the new things by Rached ALIMI.
Let your dissatisfaction lead you to innovative ways of dealing with VUCA people.
