    They dwell in DARKNESS

    With dark-hearts & dark-minds

    .. they create & execute the laws that define & confine people

    Their DARKNESS might be hidden .. even from themselves
    .. for their hearts are self-deceived (as are all hearts)

    Self-deception BLINDS and binds them

    Egomaniacs are really great for organizations in remarkable times, those that need individuals with the enthusiasm and actually thinking about steering them in new bearings. Yet, egotists can likewise lead organizations into calamity by declining to pay attention to the guidance and alerts of their chiefs.     “Pompus egotists,” Narcissists, Authoritarians, Bullies are much in the news and much in the posts and comments on LinkedIn these days.

    Sometimes as you point out “Jerks get stuff done” and they do.

    Think about Thomas Alva Edison, Steve Jobs, Robert Moses -all could be jerks. Even the universally admired Mahatma Gandhi and Ben Franklin were jerks to their families. I even have heard that Mother Teresa was difficult to work for.

    But no doubt there are some who get stuff done without being a jerk. And the hyper-confident incompetent, the insufferable egotist and the narcissist, and sociopath do tremendous damage. So I stand by my advice.

    First, “Don’t be that guy!”

    If you find out you are that guy, get help. Change. or Stay home..

    If you work for that guy -tell him -ever so gently -Hey, you know – you’re that guy. (Don’t expect to be thanked.)

    But don’t let any of this get in the way of building your competence and capability and surrounding yourself with competent, capable people and systems, processes and tools to support getting stuff done.

    There is much to do.
