Utopia

by Ken Vincent, Featured Contributor

AH, THE PERFECT State. The “it couldn’t get any better than this” condition for everyone.

Some people think we evolved from the apes that dropped out of the trees, or the sea life that struggled up on land. Some think we were created, goofed up in the Garden of Eden, and the creator booted our ancestors out into the jungle. Some have other beliefs or theories. Opinion Yours CountsWell, whatever the case it seems that we humans have been trying to create the utopia ever since.

Socialism, communism, fascists, Nazis, Dictatorships, republics, Monarchies, and all manner of government systems and theories have been tried with less than ideal results.

I want to say that there is no utopia. No system will make everyone middle class, or have them insured, or educated, or any other concept or definition of the “perfect state”. There will always be some that are richer than others. Some more talented at art, or music, or leadership, or healthier. There will always be some that are ambitious and some that are lazy.

We need to accept reality. It applies to Democrats, Republicans, Tea Party, and Independents. Stop promising what you can’t deliver. Stop passing laws designed to create the impossible. The reality is that our Republic is not perfect, but it is as close as anyone has devised to date. To take it into some version of socialism is sheer nonsense.

Do you agree?

The hotels included chain owned, franchises, and independents. They ranged in type from small luxury inns, to limited service properties, to large convention hotels and resorts. After retiring he authored a book, “So Many Hotels, So Little Time” in which he relates what life is like behind the scenes for a hotel manager. Ken operated more that 100 hotels and resorts in the US and Caribbean and formed eight companies. He is a firm believer that senior management should share their knowledge and experience with the next generation of management.
