Treating Your Dry Nose

Sinus issues and a runny nose can be irritating, annoying, and even painful. A dry nose can be just as bad an experience. Itching and congestion are common symptoms and you may even have nose bleeds. Small cuts in the nose can scab over, making it hard to breathe and causing pain. There are many factors that can cause or contribute to a dry nose including hot, dry weather, allergies, dehydration, and smoking. Whatever the cause, you want relief for your dry nose. This condition can be treated in several ways.

Drink Water

Many people do not drink nearly enough water. This leads to dehydration and a dry nose is one of the problems associated with it. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty. Doctors recommended consuming at least 8-10 eight-ounce glasses of water daily, more in hot weather. If you don’t like water, add some fruit or drink iced tea. Fluids are an effective dry nose treatment. Avoid coffee and soda. They are not good for hydration and can act as diuretics which is the opposite of what you want.

Use a Humidifier

A dry environment is one of the major causes of a dry nose. Buying and using a quality humidifier is a great way to put moisture into the air in your home. It’s a good idea to place one in your bedroom to increase humidity while you sleep. If there is a room you work in or spent a lot of time, that is another place to run a humidifier. Clean your humidifier regularly to keep mold from developing and being sprayed into the air.

Use a Nasal Spray

Nasal sprays that are made of a saline solution are an excellent way to hydrate your nasal passages. May sure to read the label to use the spray properly and not to exceed recommended dosages. Nasal gels can also be helpful especially during the night while you sleep.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is useful in treating several conditions and can be used for a dry nose. Warm up half a teaspoon in the microwave until it is soft but semi-solid. Using a q-tip, rub a small amount around the inside of each nostril. You can do this up to three times a day. It’s a good idea to use coconut oil before going to sleep.

Be Careful With Decongestants

Decongestants and antihistamines can often dry out nasal passages. If you are experiencing a dry nose be careful using these types of medication. Read the labels carefully and talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using these medications. They may be able to recommend one that won’t cause a dry nose.

Breathe Steam

Taking a hot shower can be very effective for treating a dry nose. Inhaling the steam can hydrate your nasal passages and relieve your symptoms. Spending some time in a sauna can work as well. You can also lean over a bowl of hot water with a towel over your head and breathe in the steam.

A dry nose is an unpleasant condition that can also be painful. These treatments how proven effective at relieving dry nose symptoms.
