Mindfulness is a common practice that is being widespread across businesses everywhere. Companies are starting to catch onto the importance of a healthy work environment for employees. One of the most impactful ways to improve working conditions is through mindfulness. All it takes to practice mindfulness is the ability to continue an all-time awareness of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and the surrounding environment. It is important that the lens you are viewing your emotions through is gentle and non-critical.
While you are at work, it can be hard to maintain that same level of mindfulness and positive attitude as you go throughout the day. If you are looking for ways to carry mindfulness techniques into your workplace, here are some top tips.
Set Your Morning Off Right
Before the start of every day, set your intentions. Write them down. Doing so will help keep you accountable and focused throughout the day. Your intentions will be at the forefront of your mind so that you are always thinking about it. Since you are thinking about it often, your actions will mimic those thoughts. Before you know it you have accomplished your intentions! Your intentions can be anything from maintaining a positive attitude to gaining better insight into a challenging life situation you may be going through.
Do Something You Enjoy
It feels great knowing that the work you do is meaningful to your life. That is why it is important to finding the thing that you enjoy and finding your purpose. At moments during your day, check-in with yourself. That can be through your daytime 9-5 job or it can be a passion-project side hustle. Either way, ask yourself why do you want to do this? Does it bring you joy? Write it down and do some reflecting. Remember it for the times when you feel like giving up.
Enjoy The Moment
After you have a set routine, it can be too easy to slip into a boring groove. Eventually, you start to go through the motions and this can be detrimental to your efforts in being more mindful, especially at work. While at work, be sure to take breaks. This allows you to snap out of it when you find yourself daydreaming or being distracted from work. When you find yourself slipping away, check-in with yourself. It will recenter you and improve your concentration when you get back to work.
Meditate Through Out The Day
Meditation does not have to be an over the top ceremony. All it takes is a few extra minutes to yourself. Whether you work for custom wire manufacturers or finance, step away from your work for the day, go outside and go for a walk. Do whatever you need to do go recenter yourself so you can continue with the rest of your day with a clear mind and spirit. Listen to your favorite podcast, talk to a loved one, use your favorite meditation app or do a quick prayer. When you come back into the office you will get a second wind, allowing you to kick butt in the second half of the day.
Eliminate The Idea Of Multi-Tasking
Society has convinced us that being able to do many things at once is a great skill to have, but it is the complete opposite when it comes to completing tasks mindfully. You may be able to do thousands of tasks at once, but the quality of those tasks may not be that great. Eliminating the idea of multi-tasking and focusing on one thing at a time is the best way to maintain mindfulness in the workplace. Doing too many tasks can be overwhelming and stressful. Your work will suffer. Instead, prioritize what needs to be done from most important to least important.
Look For Opportunities For Growth
There are plenty of opportunities for growth. All you have to do is look for them. Adjust your mindset from “I cannot” to “I can.” Work every day to improve your soft and hard skills. It can be really daunting changing something so large like some aspects of your personality or habits, but with goals anything is possible. To keep your self accountable and to make growth more manageable, set small goals for yourself like drinking enough water every day and eating a balanced meal. Be honest about who you and do not shy away. Know what your strengths and weaknesses are. Improve your strengths and turn your weaknesses into strengths. Doing this will also improve your self-esteem and confidence.
