Together: Let’s Take A Moment to “Just Be”

–and then join us by sharing your special moment with the universe ...

If you’re always racing to the next moment, what happens to the one you’re in? Slow down, enjoy the moment you’re in, and just be …

Taking a moment is about simply taking a few seconds every day for our mental health to “Just Be”. To pause, breathe, disconnect, and then reconnect, so we can find clarity. A simple action that can make a life-changing difference in our fast-paced world.¹

“Pause, breathe, and simply exist for a moment. It’s in these quiet spaces that we truly find ourselves.” ~Ipek Williamson

Living Life in the Fast Lane?

We keep rushing in the fast lane, but how would it be to move across to the slow lane? Remember the fable of the hare & the tortoise? It’s so often the case that less haste results in just as much speed. Slowing down doesn’t mean you achieve less – you actually achieve more by pausing to reflect. That’s why incorporating a STOP point within your day, every day, can be so beneficial.

“When I take a moment to pause, to just be, I find my authentic self, my inner child, waiting to be discovered.” ~Craig Williamson

Why not STOP and Smell the Roses?

It’s a simple 3-step process. Stop, close your eyes, and just breathe. Try it even for just 10 seconds each day. It’s such a small amount of time but it has the potential to truly benefit your mental health, reduce stress, and improve your overall wellbeing.

  1. My incredible “Just Be” moment.

It is the rainy season here in Bangalore. I was too lazy to walk. I took an auto-rickshaw to the local market.

By the time I had made my purchases, I realized it was threatening to rain. No autos were willing to come the relatively short distance to my home, a mere 20 minutes away. I decided to walk instead of waiting. Just 7 minutes into my walk back, there was a sudden downpour. Next to a tree, was a roadside shelter made from pieces of tarpaulin, which the road worker family of 3 called their home. I stood under the tree hoping the rain would subside.

Looking to my left I saw a pair of eyes peering from the slit in the covering, a tiny hand beckoned to me with his finger. In broken Kannada, I told him I was ok…but then the entrance to their “dwelling opened, & the father called me in to take shelter. Bewildered at such generosity, I went in, crouching to sit on the floor, thanking them. The mother had just started to make their meal on a makeshift stove of broken bricks and some wood. I asked her what she was making. She said it was only lentils & and rice, as they had no money to buy anything else. I felt my rucksack become heavy, & chokingly, I offered some of the gourd, okra, and tomatoes. The little one came and spontaneously hugged me. That embrace was the best ever I had experienced in a very long time. I felt tears of joy rolling down my cheeks. Status did not matter.

Spontaneity brought much joy to all of us that evening. Yes, we are friends now.

    I am truly blessed.

  2. I learned many years ago that the world didn’t stop rotating if I wasn’t available for an hour or so. All that happened was I got a clear head and a better attitiude.

Then, 30 years ago I made a big change. I stopped dropping into the slow lane and took the exit ramp. I retired and moved to the woods on a mountain.

I spent the next 14 years playing with our pet goat, feeding peanuts to our pot-bellied piggy, watching chickens and ducks take turns sitting on eggs, and sitting by the waterfall thinking great thoughts (okay, maybe they weren’t all great, but they were my thoughts so I could call them great if I chose to).

In any case, living exclusively in the fast lane, with no breaks, leaves much to be desired. (One of my great thoughts.)

  3. Closing your eyes for a moment and breathing deeply is the bridge that connects life to consciousness, which unites the body to our thoughts, allows us to take control of our mind again and experience a sensation of freedom and presence.
