[su_dropcap style=”flat”]M[/su_dropcap]ANY YEARS AGO, when I was just entering my teens I became enthralled by the writings of the late great Poet, Edgar A. Gust who wrote for a major Detroit Newspaper. His poem “They Said It Couldn’t Be Done” has been an inspiration to me all of my life and its message still rings true today, as I write this message;

They Said It Couldn’t Be Done
Somebody said it couldn’t be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That maybe it couldn’t, but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say, “Til he tried.”
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.
Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that:
At least no one ever has done it.”
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
And the first thing he knew he’d begun it.
With the lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quitting
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure:
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you,
But just buckle right in with a bit of a grin
Then take off your coat and go to it:
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That cannot be done, and you’ll do it.[/message][su_spacer]
It is frightening to watch the current political process in America and listen to the claims of those who are seeking to lead our Country in the coming years. Each candidate claims to have leadership qualities that make them the best choice for the job.
So let’s look at three of the most important qualities that a person must possess to be looked upon as a leader;
- A good leader is a person who has the insight, time and patience that enables them to select, as part of their team, persons who can be trained to take that leader’s job, as well as the willingness to help those persons move on in their careers, even if it means losing them to a competitor.
- A good leader has the vision to take on challenges and see opportunities that others see as not possible to accomplish.
- Finally a good leader also has the ability to look at opportunities that others view as possible to accomplish, but for many reasons the leader recognizes hidden obstacles that will guarantee failure.
In simple terms a good leader knows the importance of choosing future leaders, sees the real opportunities that exist and recognizes how to avoid failure.
