Did you know that stress causes our levels of Cortisol in the body to rise?
If we stay in this state of mind for long periods, our body’s ability to make effective T cells begins to break down. T cells are what help our immune system to be most effective.
One tool that can assist in reversing the effects of this hormone and boost our immune system is meditation.
To meditate means to take our mind off our daily tasks (i.e., problem-solving, analyzing) and redirect the mind to another activity that stimulates the parasympathetic or relaxation response. The key is quiet awareness of just being in the present moment.
My clients know I’m a big supporter of taking a mindful pause for just a couple of moments throughout the day to train the mind to connect and be aware of what you are thinking and feeling in the present moment. I encourage you to do so with curiosity and nonjudgment. These moments of self-awareness assist you in understanding and managing your stress.
This week I encourage you to pause throughout your day. These pauses can be as little as 2 to 5 minutes, but the positive effects they will have on your overall health are life-changing!
Enjoy a week of self-awareness and self-empowerment living mindfully one moment at a time!
