From curbside pick-up to alcohol to-go, restaurants across the country have utilized creative ways to cater to their customers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Bid-On-Equipment recently analyzed Google search trends for “takeout”, “takeout near me” and more than 2,000 related search terms in every state across the country to learn exactly where demand for takeout has increased the most. They found that Rhode Island ranks #1 for takeout during Covid-19 with 10,577 searches per every 100,000 residents. 65% of Americans have been ordering more takeout since Covid-19, with an average weekly spend of $67 on 2.4 orders.
Millennials have been spending the most of any generation with an average of $70 per week on a takeout order. As lockdown restrictions are eased, restaurants are finding innovative ways to welcome customers back, however, 43% of Americans currently don’t feel safe dining inside a restaurant. Local support for businesses impacted by the pandemic has increased during the pandemic with 59% of Americans ordering more from local restaurants instead of large chains.
Interesting and surprising data, Matt. I think I saw a graph some months back on how CCs were used in new patterns. And yes, takeout has certainly changed.
I wonder if California and New York are so low because the restaurants already were on speed dial. Only where you wouldn’t know what could be ordered from nearby would you search for “takeout.”
Fascinating data, Matt! Thanks!
