A quote that I read some time ago is still brewing in my mind. It says, “A strong woman knows she has strength enough for the journey, but a woman of strength knows it is in the journey that where she will become strong.” Thinking about this quote deeper, I concluded that richness of a man helps him to live comfortably, but a man of richness knows that it is in the journey that he will become rich.
I do not mean only richness in money, but also richness in mind and heart. It also includes richness of experience, resilience of attitude to life, creative ideas, and compassion for others.
What applies to richness encompasses all types of the above-mentioned richness.
Take richness in money, for example. A person who became rich suddenly may not have the endurance, dignity, happiness, and compassion of another rich man whose journey made him rich in experiences such as failures and disappointments. His endurance helped him to become rich in mind, heart, and dignity.
My friend, who became suddenly rich, told me that when he was poor, he was not as afraid as he is now. “This is because instead of enjoying my richness, worry fills me that if I spend money to live comfortably, I might become poor again. If I do, my life shall be filled with misery and even worse than my misery when I was poor before.”
Richness in money brought poverty in terms of living a happy life, and instead, one that is filled with fear. My friend suffers from peniphobia. The origin of peniphobia comes from the Greek word ‘penia’, which means ‘poverty’. So, Peniaphobia is the fear of poverty. Richness brought my friend the fear of poverty.
Some people, when they become rich, become selfish and greedy. We call such rich people avaricious “. Those people care only for their own interests and become greedy. They shall never have enough money, and they live their lives chasing it. Their life become void of any meaning.
Life tests our endurance and makes the journey more challenging. It is dealing with challenges that give us endurance and richness in mind, heart, and money as well. Is not this far better than being rich in money only?
As always, you know how to touch the hearts of your readers, stimulating them to reflect on the true meaning of life.
Of course, the pursuit of wealth depends on many factors, such as expectations, values, experiences and circumstances of each person. It can provide a certain tranquility, but beyond a certain level of income that satisfies basic needs and something more, the increase in wealth does not directly correlate with greater personal satisfaction.
True wealth does not lie in possessions, but in being. It is in the experiences that connect us with our deepest self and with others: love, joy, forgiveness, gratitude and knowledge. These are the elements that allow us to grow, to expand our consciousness and to get closer to our spiritual evolution. This is where the true treasure of the human being lies.
It is emotions and feelings that truly count. Money has true value only when it is spent to improve the existence and growth of man. If, however, it is an end in itself, or a way to compensate for insecurities or frustrations, then it can become a source of unhappiness.
