Leadership is seen by some as the mechanical execution of tasks, but this mechanistic approach will never get the best from people, never unleash full potential without the spirit of leadership also being present.

During my visit to the Commonwealth War Cemetry in Yangon (Rangoon) when Myanmar was first opened to foreigners after many years of isolation it inspired me to explain what the spirit of leadership is and why it is vital for true inspiration and success.

On the visit I also paid my respects to the 26,000 Commonwealth servicemen who are remembered there. On Remembrance Day and everyday, we must reflect on why we need the spirit of leadership not just the mechanics in our working lives.
