My mom would dress so beautifully for every holiday; here it is Thanksgiving, yet it’s just another day.
The chairs will all be empty of anyone as guests,
Tears replace the wishbone, the legs, and the turkey breasts.
How can I be thankful when I miss so many people?
A gap is in my soul and my heart is far from whole.
Yet here I am today wishing all of you the best.
May your table have the bounty and the chairs be full of guests.
Live each and every moment with essence from your pores; no one can predict what’s beyond so many doors.
Find gratitude and laughter with each memory that remains.
Enjoy the feast today and focus on the games.
Play and laugh with others for this may be your only chance.
Listen to the music and take the time to dance.
For we cannot beg or borrow from anything we’ve lost.
All we have are memories of such an enormous cost.
Love your loved ones now and gather friends together.
May this be a Thanksgiving you will cherish and remember.
