Social Media is Stopping Me Writing

I love to write, I have done since I was a young lad, thousands of stories swirling around in my head, I had to get them down on paper, but that was back in the days when an A4 pad and a pencil were your best friends, and I loved it, I loved the feeling of being creative.

Along Comes Social Media

Social media is part of society, and many people feel they can not function without it, but the truth is Social media is important and in my opinion necessary to how society is run, it is the major player in our social media, and business sectors, we rely on social media to connect and engage with people globally, without the ability to do this the world would be a poorer place but are we as individuals becoming too reliant even obsessed with social media and what it has to offer.

The impact of social media on a business and personal level, in my opinion, is un-measurable, but we do need to get some perspective on it, because to use social media without you having some control over it is foolish, to say the least, and that is what happened to me, I have lost control over it. my passion is to bring together writers from across the globe all in one place, so they could spread the message of inspiration-Education-Imagination-and a sense of belonging, my tag line is Everyone has a story to tell, and a community of writers would tell that story, but the problem is in pursuit of that I neglected everything else, I was determined to succeed but didn’t realize that I was failing in everything else.

Why I Need to Write Again

Writing is something I have done all of my life and writing is something I want to do for the rest of my life, but does that mean I have to give up my dream of a global community of writers? I don’t know, but one thing I do know, I have to write.

Writing to me is an escape from reality but at the same time, it also brings reality into perspective and helps me derive from it what my life is all about, the reasons I write, and the results that I want.

My yearning to write has increased dramatically over the last couple of weeks, and I have changed things in other social media accounts to reflect that, and I will be taking a step back from other commitments, if anything for my own sanity, I have to write again, and I have to write regularly.

But Do I Still Need Social Media?

The simple answer is YES social media is still an integral part of a writers tool kit, and without it, it would be almost impossible to attract an audience, and an audience is what bloggers and writers of all types need because we are relaying a message or a story and we want people to read it.

The facts about social media are astounding, the reach and engagement you can gain if it is used properly are priceless, below are some of the astounding facts.

  • 96 BILLION USERS OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN 2019
  • 91% OF SOCIAL MEDIA USES ACCESS IT THROUGH MOBILE.
  • FACEBOOK COMMANDS 2.4 BILLION MONTHLY USERS AND IS STILL GROWING.
  • 73% OF MARKETERS BELIEVE THAT SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING HAS BEEN EFFECTIVE FOR THEIR BUSINESS.
  • ON AVERAGE, 3 HOURS A DAY IS SPENT ON SOCIAL NETWORKS AND MESSAGING.
  • 54% OF SOCIAL MEDIA USERS, USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO RESEARCH PRODUCTS.

So, do I still need social media? Yes of course I do, but I do need to strike a balance between social media and writing, and I have had to make a decision of concentrating on my blog and contributing to Bizcatalyst 360° where I can write what I feel and feel what I write.
