Sister Sunday and a stack of bibles sat by the vestibule,
A beautiful lady in a strapless dress settled in the front right pew.
The organist commenced, as the church bells faded,
And the choir began to sing.
A gospel tune from long ago,
In a time when cotton was king.
The day was hot, and the windows was raised,
As the paper fans waved about.
The preacher was standing in the center of the church,
When he began to shout.
Thank you, Lord,
For the things we have,
And the sunshine you brought our way.
Thank you, Lord,
For Miss Tillies pies,
And the fried chicken Miss Ruth did make.
And then in a voice you could hear clear to heaven,
The Preacher shouted and said.
IT’S ABOUT!
Not the taking, but the giving,
Not the anger, but the love,
Not the hate, but forgiveness,
Thank you,
Jesus,
From above.
Then he twirled around like a ballet man,
And walked out the church front doors.
Leaving us there stupefied,
As he shouted one time more.
Look inside the heart you have and the goodness in this world,
For with His mighty power held,
Your fears should be ignored!
Beautiful, and I can picture the imagery
Thank you Lynn. As I told Larry I rushed it a bit, loved its beginning and may rewrite the back end as I feel it has greater potential than its ending provides. We’ll see. You guys be safe. JJ
Very inspiring my brother
Thank you buddy. I may rewrite the back half as I wasn’t pleased with how I closed it and felt it could have become a greater piece. I loved its beginning but felt like I needed to get it out there so I rushed it a bit. Hope you guys are well and hunkered down with all that’s going on. Be safe J
It’s been interesting. It’s easy to keep social distance out in the country. We order most everything online
