Signs Your Business Is Ready For Post-Pandemic Life

It’s been almost five months since the world was shocked into lockdowns and quarantines because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We went from Super Bowl gatherings to shopping and eating out, to sitting inside, losing jobs, and finding it hard to manage working from home. Businesses began to fold, those that could survive make  their staff remote where they could. Essential workers were scrambling to help and while the world was a scary place, it feels like the Roaring 20s got off to a very bad start.

For businesses – especially small businesses – the days of running things in the office 9-5 feel like they were decades ago rather than months. In the past few months, the world has become a very different place compared to last year and business owners are terrified about what’s to come. The rules for quarantine, social distancing and all of the things related to a COVID-free area are changing so much that people don’t know whether they are up or down with it. It is a confusing time for all, but your business has to be the first thing that you consider. Your business is your livelihood, and if you have had to temporarily lay off some employees, it may feel like you’ll never be able to reopen again.

We are all edging toward trying to live life around the virus rather than have it live around us. Businesses are tentatively trying to reopen, but there is a lot of apprehension about it. As the rules aren’t clear enough for some companies, they aren’t reopening until the cases of Coronavirus have flatlined. Other businesses are choosing to take baby steps with reopening their location, with a gradual strategy for getting their business back on track. The route you decide to take will largely depend on whether you have a business that you NEED to open right now, or if you can continue to work your business remotely from home. In the midst of the confusion, it can help you to know the signs that your business is truly ready to embrace post-pandemic life. We’ve got a few tips to help you to recognize it below.

1. The Law

The very first sign that you are ready to rediscover your business after the pandemic is in the law. You cannot do anything until the law says you can, and if you are keeping an eye on the situation in your area, you’re going to be able to reopen your business carefully when you are allowed to. Trying to reopen before you are legally ready is going to be like shooting yourself in the foot. Instead, you need to look at what your local area is dictating when it comes to Coronavirus, and follow the law. You need to be responsible as you are running a business, and you care about setting an example to the local people. If you don’t do this reopening post-pandemic properly, you’re going to potentially have to shut down all over again! Heed the warnings and listen to the health advice, and you should be able to open with confidence.

2. You Have a Plan For Protection

Have you started to research a good COVID Disinfecting Service yet? Your customers need to know that they can trust that your business is prepared for opening, and the best thing to do is to look at how you can follow the rules and make them safe. From wearing masks in the store, to using hand sanitizer stations outside the door, you need to be able to demonstrate that you have their wellbeing in mind. It’s hard to manage your customers in a pandemic, as you need to ensure that you aren’t allowing people through the doors that have symptoms of COVID-19. Cleanliness in your business should be displayed so that customers can see that you are doing everything possible to ensure that they will be safe while they shop. You have to have a comprehensive plan in place before people come back to your stores – you want this to be successful, not a failure!

3. Your Customers Are Asking You to Come Back

Every business provides a service, but customers often prefer a certain business in an industry over another. If you have had a lot of interest in your business reopening from your customers, then it makes sense that you would put a plan in place to come back again. If you are able to and allowed to, and you know that your customers are asking for you to do it, reopening can be a success.

4. You’re Adjusted For a New World

Before the pandemic happened, you might have had greeters at the door. You may have owned a restaurant that allowed buffet service. The habits of your customers were easy to predict, which made it easy to meet their needs. The thing is, you’re opening for a new world and the customer intentions may be different. The best way to understand them is to provide customers with surveys to complete before you decide to reopen your doors. Ask them what they hope to see when you do reopen, and ask them what you could be doing to make their buying experience a better one in the post-pandemic world.

5. You Have The Technology Necessary

There is every chance that reopening for you will mean moving your brick and mortar business 100% online. If that’s the case, you need to ensure that you have the right software to get it right. You have to have the platform that will manage your customers and their expectations without being overwhelmed by it all.  The right software will keep your business well-supported online, and it will enable your customers to buy from you without dragging on your website. So, upgrade all of your IT if you plan to move online – actually, do it anyway!

Reopening post-pandemic may be scary, but that doesn’t mean that you should hide your business forever. When it’s safe, it’s time to get back out there and be the success that you were before the world went a little nuts!
