Shift Or Be Shifted

There are situations that will leave us baffled, unsure, frustrated, and even overwhelmed. Some refer to this by saying we have been thrown a curve ball. Others see it as an excuse to quit. However, I look at this as an opportunity to shift from a current location into one better suited for continued growth. We will not have quick answers to neatly explain or justify what is currently in front of us. There are times where we simply have to be ready to move. Staying in place might be comfortable yet in this moment, it is not really an option.

What are you going thru right now that is causing you to question, to stress, to worry, and to give up? Perhaps you are having a challenge at work. You are trying to do the right thing, learn, position yourself for upward movement, or add value to the organization. However, nothing seems to improve.You might be in a rut. You may feel like you are spinning your wheels. You don’t know where to turn or what you need to do. This is a perfect opportunity to shift. If you are not getting satisfactory results, identify something different that you can try. Is there a better approach? Do you need further training? Do you need to ask for input or feedback from a supervisor or colleague?

Something has to change so that Something can change. By taking the initiative to shift, you are changing the perspective and lense for which you consider in your circumstance. Or perhaps, you are having a challenge with a family member. They have become isolated, their behavior has changed, or they are acting out based on an emotion they are having to confront. Perhaps our approach to help them must change. There may be confusion or concern because our previous guidance was based on ways that right now do not continue to apply. We do not add anything by continuing to do things or say things the same way. We must look for ways to shift our own perspective to help provide clarity to them.

Things are in a constant flow of change.  Circumstances and Situations change in an instant.  The challenge is that as a result of this change, we have the added pressure of trying to keep up.  The term shift or be shifted speaks to the level in which we approach life’s challenges.  Are we proactively seeking to improve our perspective?  Do we look for ways to enhance our knowledge, understanding, and growth? Or, are we constantly in a reactionary mode?  Wonder why things are always happening to us as we put up a defensive stance?  Life is going to happen.  The element of how it affects us is the approach we choose to take. For example, it is prudent to have an emergency fund.  The suggested amount varies although a common thread is between 6-9 months of your monthly expenses.  When we take steps to  move towards this objective, the level of stress goes down because we are better prepared for those unexpected things take place.  The same applies to the level of understanding and growth in your career field, goals, family life, and personal relationships.  When we proactively seek to improve, we increase our chances for real success and fulfillment in several key areas.

The term Life Has Passed Us By has been used to express regrets for lost opportunities or missed chances to evolve and engage. It is also used to describe someone who did not continue to shift in their journey to proactively prepare for the opportunities that may have been available to them. If this describes you, I have very good news. Your past does not have to continue to describe your future. No matter where you are in your life, it is not too late to shift towards a better outcome. You may need to increase your reading, define your purpose, review your Why or seek help from a coach. You certainly have the power to make the decision to change your direction by electing to make different choices.

By shifting rather than being shifted, you are taking control of your own outcome. You have regained the position of CEO towards your own existence. By choosing to shift, you have selected to walk thru the doors of opportunity, establish a new you, and walk towards your predestined success. The choice is yours and only you can sign off on this selection. I encourage you to make the necessary shifts to allow yourself the success you so richly deserve. Take the lead towards the personal development necessary to withstand the unexpected.  Rather than hope for the best, plan for the best in the actions you take.  When you begin to feel comfortable, you should feel a sense of discomfort.  For this means that you have stopped moving and growing towards a better version of yourself.  So, start where you are and seek to define your shift so that you remove the power of someone else to do it for you!
