He rode along on the dusty trail
Following the legends and the tall tales
He covered the lands far and wide
Just him, his horse, and his dog by his side
He heard of riches, gold, and fame
It was the only reason that so many came
There’s gold in them hills they all exclaimed
Just waiting for you to come stake your claim
The fever hit hard and he got the itch
To head out west and make it rich
But just as others had gone and tried
He sat there broke with a tear in his eye
He gathered up his things and he said goodbye
And headed back down the trail all broken inside
Along the way, he realized that his riches were not gold
But the love of his horse, his dog, and his memories were his real riches if the truth be told
The cowboy Poet returns with an inspiring story.
