Croissants, dumplings, pork curry, and all sorts of scrumptious food await those who find and enter the Narrow Door Cafe. Located in the Taiwanese city of Tainan, this cafe is literally a hole in the wall. Its entrance is barely forty centimeters wide (less than sixteen inches)—just enough for the average person to squeeze through! Yet, despite the challenge, this unique cafe has attracted large crowds because of its great cuisine and its “not-to-be-rushed” friendly staff.
Well, our door isn’t quite as narrow, but it has swung wide open for those ready to encounter an opportunity to finally pivot from virtual to personal, face-to-face transformation, where the power of hugs, handshakes, and real engagement will simply be magical. Because our encounter will be unlike any other gathering you’ve ever experienced –having been “reimagined” from beginning to end. Starting with the fact that it is being convened “for good” versus for profit. It’s not a virtual event. It’s not a conference. It’s not a seminar, a meeting, or a symposium.
It’s not about attracting a big crowd. It’s not about making a profit, but rather about making a real difference. And it’s not your typical run-of-the-mill everyday gathering crammed with stages, keynote speeches, team-building exercises, PowerPoint presentations, and all the other usual humdrum.
In fact, it will intentionally be none of the above, because it’s going to be a genuine encounter. Where conversation trumps presentation. Where authentic connection runs deep. Where less = more. Starting with capping the attendance at no more than 50 participants to maximize the opportunity for genuine connection and engagement. And ending with “WOW” –what a game-changing experience! This sounds to be such a promising adventure and refreshing after covid had put us to elbow touching instead of hand shaking and God forbid if we hugged. Virtual hugs and conversations became the norm and to a certain extent still is. I can picture a room full of writers in all venues coming together for the common good. While I won’t beable to attend I will be with you all in Spirit as I am sure it will be an enlightening experience for all that attend.
