Reduced Fertilizer Use = Better Consumer Health

Part 3 of 6

‘Internet of Things’ is the forerunner of reduced dependency on chemicals across many business sectors, not only agriculture. The proliferation of intelligent sensors to develop time-sensitive data will contribute to better cultivation practices. The increase in yield induced by the most efficient control of the inputs shall serve us well.

The increasing application of ‘Compound Growth Hormones’ has been developing into a serious challenge to public health. Most of them make up of multiple substances and fertilizers designed to enhance product output. The ensuing injury to the earth adds to dropping water level.

To cut out or even reduce non-vital materials in agriculture translates into a load off from several sectors. Logistics support earns its rightful breathing space and saves fossil fuel at the same time. Reduced diesel consumption triggers a contraction in both pollution and greenhouse gas emission.

Experts have identified various fertilizers, insecticides, and crop-boosters among the most vicious contributors to hitherto unknown diseases across the planet. Their negative impact causes enormous pressure on the pharmaceutical industry, in particular, the antibiotics manufacturers.

Reaction to powerful medicines poses still larger difficulties for the caregivers. Why, because the mixture of harmful chemicals including arsenic, and hard-to-treat crop-yield enhancers ends up on our dinner plate causing complicated medical conditions.

The entire pharmaceutical industry goes out on a limb and spends massive amounts of money to produce a countermeasure against one particular pathogen. While a few succeed, the ensuing loss of these efforts amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions.

A drastic cut in chemicals use shall induce lower production of the same. Plugging ozone depleting gas emissions will further check deterioration of the environment.

“IoT” technology permits growers to overcome their dependency on climate systems and act in a proactive fashion. Easy availability of vital facts in the grip of their fingers shall allow them to reap their just rewards. They wield power to set market positions in Real-Time before selling their produce.

Price change in the bulk food and grain market is not a game of chance for the farmer anymore. He/she can find the intelligence and pull off the strongest possible return. Such an outcome can afford them larger return for their efforts and give a substantial boost to the local economy in turn.

The combination of automation and traditional data can help defend them against predatory habits of brokers and merchants. Food-grains and fresh produce growers may set up their private well-informed geographic groups. It will allow them to demand the value with firmness and not succumb to pressure.

Farmers’ Markets in cities large and small are likely to emerge as an evolving reality in the not-too-far future.

Consumers will pay more for the guaranteed fresh produce due to its faster-to-market approach. Increased availability of natural food offers improving health standards in hundreds of millions or even billions worldwide.

Those overweight and in a state of slightly inferior health can breathe a sigh of relief. Individuals, families, and governments stand to cut down on the use of unnecessary, avoidable medication.

Livestock farmers have the power to achieve enormous profits by securing so far unavailable statistical reports on their smartphones. Whether a stud farm or poultry, dairy or mink, rabbit, or a crustacean farm, the advantages will be visible to each one of them, across the field.

Constant availability of real data in proper doses allows the administrators to protect life and health of their animals and livestock. They can easily control wastage and keep their flock as organic as practicable. As described in detail in Part 1 already, several smart sensors are available to take care of such actions.

A severe cut in non-essential medicines and growth hormones is much likely to work for both the herd and the keepers. As a direct benefit, meat-eating consumer’ health will show gradual transition for the better.

It should be obvious by now that ‘IoT’ represents empowerment. Converting sensitive information into a predictive model has emerged as a phenomenon. The greatest contributors to such a rising trend are the intelligent, programmable sensors. This technology helps streamline the operations by notifying those involved before an impending disaster.

We have listened to the century-old wisdom: “A stitch in time saves nine.” Now, we can observe it manifest itself in a stable fashion to influence our everyday lives deeper than any other product, technology, innovation, or revolution.
