I hope the title of the post kindled your curiosity, but that is quite fine with me. Creativity is to turn the unfamiliar into the familiar.
I can tell you that all creative men give birth to creative ideas. Before these men may deliver, they experience pregnancy of baby ideas from the mating of ideas sperms. For pregnant to occur, the sperms of ideas must meet in the right environment for pregnancy to happen. I discussed this in my post titled “The Journey of Ideas Sperms” that BIZCATALYST published recently.
Research studies reveal that pregnancy in the skies may lead to babies weighing less and be born with weak bones. Thanks to Amina Alami who alerted me to this fact in her comment on my previous post on “A Shrewd Solution to a Complex“ published on BIZCATALYST and a summary of which shared on LinkedIn.
Imagination takes us to new heights and spaces and experiences less gravitation to the mind. However, like delivering babies, so is the delivery of the “baby of ideas”. Gravitational pull makes it more difficult for the mother when it to pushing the baby out. This brings forth the ideas and space and its relatedness to the 5-steps of the process of creativity with further elaboration.
The Process of Creativity
Creativity is a process that undergoes five sequential steps: These are:
- Preparation: gathering a pool of raw ideas
- Digestion: exploring possible connections between the raw ideas
- Incubation: unconscious processing of raw ideas
- Illumination: the emergence of the creative idea
- Verification: evaluation of the emerging creative idea and its possible strengths and weaknesses
The preparation step is a step of collecting ideas through reading and probing with our senses. It is building the inventory of ideas with no emphasis on their connections.
The Digestion step is the step geared towards finding connection between ideas. This is a crucial step. Ideas are materials and what connects materials is dependent on their weight and distance. The greater the weight of an idea and the closer it is to other the more likely it shall connect (bind) with them.
The network of ideas is like a network of cities. This was first presented in 1962 by Jan Tinbergen suggested in 1962 that the size of bilateral trade flows between any two countries is governed by employing the ‘gravity equation’, in emulation to Newton’s theory of gravitation. Planets are attracted to each other in proportion to their sizes and closeness, so too are countries.
I extend the same principle here and say that the trade among ideas is governed by the strength of an idea and its closeness to other ideas. Weak ideas have little impact, but the few of them that are strong shall be able to fertilize the egg of another idea so that pregnancy may be possible. As if rich countries form strong connections, so are strong and rich ideas and they form stronger connections.
Ideas Are Materials
Ideas are materials. Albert Einstein found out that gravity is in fact a form of space. Space comprises the three dimensions height, width, and depth. It forms the “material” from which our universe is made. In addition, just as material gives way when a massive ball is placed on it, so too does space curve around a massive object in the universe. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the curvature will be.
What applies to materials extends to ideas. Ideas are balls-like. If they are massive ideas, they cause greater curvature of their space. This curvature brings them closer together.
Same with ideas- they orbit each other and are gravitated by the mind-idea gravitation. The mind is earth-like.
Curving of the Internet Space
I am thinking of the internet as space. When people from different parts of the world are brainstorming, they may generate heavy idea materials that bend the virtual space and then magic may happen,
What applies to materials applies to ideas and their possible interactions. Mean with heavy ideas and with enough proximity may have their ideas ready to make ideas interact and give birth to new ideas.
