That is what we are being fed by both major political parties; pablum made with skimmed milk. A watery gruel with little or no nourishment or substance. So it has been for a number of years now. Both parties claim to want to fix the country’s problems. Both parties agree the following absolutely must be addressed:
The huge and ballooning debt at or over $20 trillion now;
Lack of a balanced budget;
Open borders that allow undesirables into our country;
The growing threat of radical terrorist groups;
SS and Medicare looming deficits;
A faltering/failing education system;
An aging and failing infrastructure;
Out of control medical costs, particularly insurance premiums and drugs;
A lack of campaign finance laws and controls;
A staggering economy with more and more companies moving off shore;
Timely medical care for vets; and
Several other matters that are pressing.
So, with an election looming in the near future, I think it timely to ask, “if both parties, and all their candidates for office, agree that the above items must be fixed”, then why are they not fixed? Perhaps it is also noteworthy that most of the candidates running for office have recently been in office, or currently are, and have failed to fix even one of these problems. Why is that?
There are only two possible reasons that these issues are not fixed. One, the elected officials and the bureaucrats they hire simply have no idea how to fix them, in spite of all their posturing, promises, and bluster. That is a very sobering possibility.
However, even more frightening is that they simply don’t want to fix the problems. Why would that be so? Perhaps by fixing the problems they have no platform to run on? Would voters continue to support them just because the problems were solved? Of course another option, even more horrid, is that they are purposely running our country into the ground to lay the foundation for a socialist type government, or a dictatorship of sorts controlled by a political elite.
I know all that sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory, but I don’t mean it to be such. Just troubling questions that keep nibbling on my sub-conscious. So, I keep coming back to the question of will electing “non-politicians” give us a chance at fixing these problems? I don’t see that it could make it much worse.
