Operations: Why Closing Deals is all About Product Knowledge

Many hotel operators and hotel owners would be surprised to learn that so many hotel sales executives, even those with a good deal of experience, lack a whole lot of knowledge about their own product. There are even some GMs in the same boat. The whole idea behind being a great salesperson is to know everything there is to know about all the aspects of the product you are selling.

CONVERSATIONS

  1. Hmm, actually I think I’ll have to disagree with you on this. Salesmen are a dime a dozen, and there’s a reason why the very word has such a negative connotation. Most salesmen are literally out for themselves alone, with no concern for their customers or even the company they work for. The rare Sales Professional who seeks to set himself apart from the shark tank will educate himself in his chosen field and will naturally adopt a consultative approach with his clients as a direct result. The fast-talking goes by the wayside, as the Sales Professional seeks to discover and then fulfill his clients’ needs. The Sales Professional finds the delicate balance between serving his client, serving the company he represents, and reaping the rewards of making the sale. He does not consider his clients to be a “Closed Deal”, but rather sees them as relationships that must be nurtured and valued.
Just an opinion from a sales professional!
