You are known by your staff to be a tough, no nonsense, boss. But, you are also considered to be fair, reasonable, consistent, and ethical.
Now, you have a problem employee that we will call Charlie. His temper has flared at fellow workers three times. The first two you talked to him. He apologized promised it wouldn’t happen again, but clammed up as to what may be his problem. The third time it happened in front of a customer and you gave him a written warning, but again he refused to discuss it with you.
Charlie has been with the company for 10 months, has good job skills and is a productive employee.
You know that his temper flare ups have not stopped. You hear snatches of comments from his peers. Words like “hot head”, “unpredictable”, “not a team player”. You see their sideways looks at him.
Then it happens again. He flares up at a coworker and she starts crying.
You have the authority to deal with this any way you choose.
What would YOU do with Charlie?
