If ifs don’t exist
And thoughts don’t either
Then what do I know
Mother nature’s a teaser
When what do I see
In front of me
Might not be real
And though I can feel
And when I do hear
A sound in my range
It calls out to me
And resonates strange
So I try to speak
But my mouth is dry
The water in me
Was used up to cry
So when I lay down
And nod off to sleep
The brain continues
This body to keep
Brain tends to your needs
And hates being disturbed
So it summons your heart
And says a few words
“I’m busy all day
I stay up all night
But you dear heart
You have a fight
This human we know
And live in their shell
I have an answer
I need you to tell”
Heart was intrigued
And perked up a bit
It couldn’t refuse
When brain had a fit
Brain had no notion
Of what the heart felt
It just had a message
From the mind that had dealt
Ignoring the mind
Brain turned to the heart
Gave it a kick
And told it to part
Heart was hurt
And knew how to feel
And brain did not know
That all this was real
Heart turned away
And did what was told
The brain continued
But mind was not sold
It snapped into action
And woke the host up
It’s time to fight back
And fix this break up
Do not believe
And always beware
Of all that you see
And all that you hear
Ifs don’t exist
And thoughts are not real
Oh little heart
I know how you feel
The heart and its pieces
Looked up to the mind
Being so open
It always was kind
Unknown to the brain
The need for hope sped
It was so important
Or brain would be dead
The brain was too busy
To notice the fuss
As host was in need
To function and thus
The mind in control
Took care of the heart
With belief and some faith
It glued back each part
When heart was stronger
It summoned the brain
To which it responded
And lectured in vain
“Oh brain you must know
And compute this forever
In times of emotion
It’s mind over matter
I know you work hard
And search for the answer
But ifs are the thoughts
You must never say never.”

To you as well my friend
Thank you very much Larry! This means a lot to me! You are indeed a wonderful writer! Have a great week my friend! Paula
What a poetic dialogue you’ve captured between the brain/mind and the heart! Paula. And, of course, it made me curious what do your bowels say-your gut? Very thought and heart provoking. Truly creative. I get to read your poem, again. Layers of richness that a first pass is like only placing the tongue on some frosting without realizing there’s a delicious layered cake to experience. 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Laura, thank you fora delicious review…It’s really complementary how you just put a recipe on creative writing and also made me want a piece of cake at the same time! Lol. I had a lot of fun with this one and as for the gut…we’ll say that that’s the way the baker stirs, beats, rolls or kneads……no two are the same. A secret recipe we all have…
Thank you so much for the feedback. Delighted to share…

You are welcome, Paula. I feel as you do. Last night I reposted the last article I wrote (written?) for BC 360 which was back in December. Here is the link to the article in case you did not see it the first time around.
