I HAVE WRITTEN eulogy type articles for the likes of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, David Bowie and Glenn Frey. With the passing today of the America’s First Lady Nancy Reagan who epitomized everything that a First Lady. She was not only gracious but of simple elegant style. She wore her smile as brightly as the stars twinkling in the evening sky.
Nancy Reagan shared a special bond of love for her husband President Ronald Reagan. Their lives where so very intertwined with each other to the point they could not live without each other. When President Regan (he will always be President Reagan) died in 2004 First Lady Nancy Reagan was practically inconsolable with grief. They were a special couple who endured many stressful times during the course of their marriage (when the President was nearly assassinated) and according to many was never the same.
Sadly in recent years First Lady Reagan as a result of several falls in recent years including one in May of 2012 when as a result of a fall she sustained several broken ribs she began to appear increasingly frail clearly exasperated by her inability to overcome the devastating loss of the President. Shortly after his passing she showed her beloved step-daughter Maureen Reagan the bed where her and Ronnie slept in and shared so many wonderful memories together.
Though a staunch Republican Conservative like her husband Nancy Reagan’s death has galvanized our nation with outpouring of love in addition to expressions of profound sorrow that have transcended political affiliations with condolences coming in from all over the world. Nancy Reagan was not a dominating personality but she had a way of making all those that met her feeling as if they were talking to an old friend.
Nancy Reagan will long be remembered for her “just say no” campaign that prevented scores of young people from ruining their lives as a result of succumbing to drug use. Her advocacy for stem cell research raised public awareness while at the same time raised the public awareness and influenced decision makers about the vital research for Alzheimer’s disease which is a disease that steals the person’s mind from them erasing all but traces of a person’s memory.
Not to be content with her work in the above areas during the period when Ronald Reagan was governor of California Nancy became a champion of the Foster Grandparent Program, which brought together senior citizens and handicapped children. This was a shining example of her fierce dedication to human kind.
Nancy Reagan will be buried at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is Simi Valley, California alongside of her husband to whom she gave her life-long devotion to. The library was closed to the mourners on Sunday. Prior to the funeral, there will be opportunities for members of the public who wish to pay their respects to this giant of a woman at the Library.
Nancy Regan to those who were fortunate enough to have met her and been touched by her were struck by her warmth and powerful visions for good. Her guidance along with her generous advice are additional hallmarks to her life.
We remember her screen career as well that having developed her love of acting from her mother where she starred in 11 films with her last film being Hellcats of the Navy where she co-starred with her husband in 1956.
Nancy Reagan is survived by her daughter Patricia and her son Ron who was an outspoken critic of his father during his administration along with a stepson Michael. Although congestive heart failure took First Lady Nancy Reagan away from us at age 94 her presence will long be felt. Her 52 year marriage to President Reagan was one of fierce devotion to each other is a model for married couples today.

Nancy Reagan was a beautiful, gracious human being. I don’t think people in the spotlight are ever seen as they really are. Too many filters to look through, but from what I know of her, she was beautiful inside and out. Thanks for sharing.
