Anyone can mother another
With kind words, gentle
Presence, noble silence,
A song sung,
A hand, held,
A soft touch on an arm, a shoulder;
Warm hugs,
A full-face smile of “I see you!”
A pot of homemade soup
Delivered to your doorstep.
Hot coffee the way you like it–
Black, with cream,
With cream and sugar,
With almond milk and honey,
With love and care.
An entire meal cooked,
Ready to be eaten, shared.
A handwritten note
Complete with doodles and
Smiley faces, Signed with
Heartfelt love and gratitude.
Anyone can mother.
To mother is to create, to
Nurture, to birth an idea,
To contract and expand with
A Heart-centered thought,
A possibility of many possibilities
To gently coax, water, this seed of
Joy into the
world as the roots grow deep, the shoots
burst through the dirt
into the sunlight,
uplift, affirm life,
Inspire souls, and bloom into a
Passion project, a painting, a poem,
A Dance, a tool, a toy, a design, a book, a collage,
Improvisation, a doodle,
A Vision for one’s life,
A life lived dedicated to
Creating,
A gift
Generously generative.
Empathy, thoughtfulness,
Compassion,
Noticing and caring.
To Mother involves
Free will-you can choose freely to
Mother, to a million times birth yourSelf
into this present moment and
Give attention, tender love to
YourSelf and others.
Mothering is part of
Being Human,
The yin inside the yang.
Ah, to mother one another
Every single day.
Our survival, our healing,
Our evolution.
This is wonderful! I think i tend to Mother even though I’ve never been a mother i love your concept of it. I am very motherly to my nieces and nephews! Awesome poem!
