Millennials – Who Are They Really?

You can’t move forward by looking down on others all the time. That’s my opinion anyway. Maybe that’s why I like this new generation so much. I for one believe they are going to be just fine, not all of them of course just the ones that are looking up on life.

I spent time with bunches of them recently and had the best time I’ve had in a long time. They remind me of lightning bugs, they only come out at night and they run in packs for their own protection.

Think about it, this new generation learned their multiplication tables in the third grade whereupon they were handed a calculator a bottle of physician-prescribed medication to keep them calm while the educational system dumbed them down. Their parents put them in front of a game station while they went into another room to scream at one another over who got what in a pending divorce.

Well, folks, there are enough of them off their meds now waking up and figuring things out. They don’t want to take crap from an old fart who should be on medication paying them low wages and in general bullying them around.

Well, folks, there are enough of them off their meds now waking up and figuring things out. They don’t want to take crap from an old fart who should be on medication paying them low wages and in general bullying them around. They do however want clean food, water, and honesty and they are willing to work together for it.

I met some who are pulling together to start a community vegetable garden so they can have fresh food. Many were learning trades banning together in packs and starting their own little businesses from skydiving schools, building decks, grouping together living in run-down houses and fixing them up for sale or too rent out. There were bakers of bread and bartenders all learning knowing full well they would owe their own place one day. Some were operating out of what our age group would call a little hole in the wall joints with people lined up around the block because what they did they did well and offered a better product than the Walmart’s of the world.

I learned they work hard four days a week and play hard the other three. It seems they are not interested in things, they are interested in life and living it fully. They drink designer drinks, lend a helping hand to one another but you bad mouth one it’s as if you’ve thrown the blow at the pack and they will set that person straight or shun them completely out of the pack.

I also learned something else. They all love their grandmother’s because a grandmother loves them unconditionally. I saw lots of pictures of their Nanna’s that they keep off in their cell phone photo gallery.

The news is full of the ones not looking up and dying of drug overdoses or worse. It paints a gloomy picture of this new generation, but in my humble little opinion, it’s not the whole story. This new generation of young people who are the brunt of many a comedian’s joke box is coming into their own and their pissed off, locked and loaded to change the world. I happen to think for the better!
