For many, encountering someone experiencing homelessness evokes a barrage of questions and assumptions. Are they lazy? Dangerous? Do they choose this life? These stereotypes paint an incomplete and often inaccurate picture. UNSHELTERED: None of Us Are Home Until All of Us Are Home, a new book determined to shatter these misconceptions, seeks media partners to amplify its message. This non-profit publication delves into the realities of unsheltered individuals, revealing their stories of resilience and the challenges they face. Net proceeds from all sales will be distributed to good nonprofits that serve the unsheltered/homeless community.

Why “Unsheltered”?

The book goes beyond the conventional term “homeless,” opting for “unsheltered” to capture a broader scope. It encompasses those living on the streets, in vehicles, or in unsuitable structures. This shift in language aims to inspire a more nuanced understanding of this complex issue.

UNSHELTERED dismantles common myths about homelessness. Many individuals experiencing homelessness work, often facing immense difficulties securing jobs due to lack of permanent addresses or reliable transportation. Mental health issues or addiction aren’t universal factors; in fact, most unsheltered people are not a threat, but rather victims of violence and theft.

The book features real-life stories, each with the power to transform perceptions. These narratives reveal the humanity behind the experience, demonstrating that unsheltered individuals are just like us – facing hardships that have left them without a roof over their heads.
