SEO is one of those marketing divisions which is more complicated than the rest. Many of us look at search engine optimisation and are scared off by the mere mention of the title. However, it isn’t a difficult concept to understand and it is something which can greatly help widen your business’ reach.
SEO is the act of changing your website content and website function to make sure it ranks highly on search engine results. Simple, right? Here are some of the ways you can make your content optimised for a search engine this month.
Keywords
The buzzword when talking about SEO is undoubtedly keywords. A keyword is the word or group of words that you use to search something online. Let’s say you wanted to find a dog-friendly restaurant in your area: your google search would likely look like this:
‘Local Dog-friendly restaurant’
As you can see, you have four keywords here to search for and you will get a ton of results which best match this term. If you want to make your website show up when a term is searched you need to include these keywords in your website content such as articles and within the website code itself. You can take an SEO course by ClickMinded and this will give you a lot of useful ways you can do this for your company.
Optimise content
Content is anything which you add to your website that people can read or look at. This could be an image, infographic, social media post, video or article. The key to making sure you are ranked highly on the search engine is to add keywords into your content and content tags. For example with images, when you input an image of a lake o your website you will have the option to rename the file. DON’T SKIP THIS STEP. By naming the file you are telling the search engine what it is, and they can use this to rank you higher or lower.
When it comes to articles you need to make sure you input keywords into the body of your text. For example, you can think about the example we had before of dog-friendly restaurants. If you are telling a story about a particular restaurant and giving it a review, make sure that somewhere in the text you add the key phrase. This will enable the search engine to read and register what your article is about and use this to match it with a search term.
Make it bot friendly
It is incredibly important when creating a website that you take the time to make sure everything is running smoothly. The navigation and usability of your website can make a massive difference to the rank you are able to achieve on a search engine because they don’t like a website which doesn’t fully work. Take your time to go through your website and check for slowly loading images, broken links, and the navigation is clear. Bots will comb over your website to check for your SEO rank and therefore you need to make sure they are able to navigate through the whole site with no issues.
