Many LinkedIn groups are out of control. Group members have discovered they can spam the group and get away with it. Many group admins are not doing a good job managing their groups.
I’m not talking about the occasional post that has a link to content that members of the group might find interesting and valuable, and that is directly related to the profession, industry, practice area or subject that is the focus of the group. I’m talking about the oddly-placed comments and updates that include a link or a comment to something that appears to be either:

There needs to be more control over groups, sub groups and each and every member. This excellent professional networking site has become infested with modern parasites (Scammers) “Click here to get this”….If you’re trying to sell something, join the home shopping network. Otherwise leave us alone. We’re here to brainstorm with other professionals to solve business concerns and or problems within our organizations. If we want anything you’re selling, believe me we will seek you out.
I’ve joined groups for the value, and unjoined when the content was heavily “Here’s what you need, and I have that to sell to you.” instead of “Here’s how this group supports is community, reach out to the members if you’re in need of education, advice, accountability, (whatever).” I find I’m pretty good at clicking the Leave Group button when the group is not what I expected. I have only had to block two people from contacting me because they took their marketing to the point of irritation.
