Life can be rough
around the edges
efficient lists help and flexible
schedules help and good sleep
most certainly moves the needle
toward peace and ease
and stress-less energy
But like a well-worn rug
or cozy terrycloth robe
things inevitably fray and splay
and drains plug and old ways tug
uncomfortably and life no longer
flows in the direction of our intentions
not to mention our most cherished
dreams and well-conceived schemes
So what to do with the annoying
what’s-so-ness of wear and tear
and trips and falls and all that gets tossed
into the mix of what needs to be
fixed or tolerated while we find ourselves
held back by the locked gate
or the lost ticket that just might
bust us loose from the thicket of life’s
flimsiest whimsies
In the moment it all boils down to
either giving in to the hissy fit or finding
the heavy-duty grit to keep on keeping on
The choice of course is mine.
So last night I threw something
and broke something and said
some things I wish I hadn’t
So today I get to make amends
and tend once again
to the tasks at hand
with all the gratitude and grace
I can muster as I dust off
my flustered ego and invite my bestest
SELF down from the proverbial shelf
Today is a new day.

Yea today is a new say! We can a alwaus start over! Great poem.
To begin again is one of the most brilliantly tenacious things we can do. Thinking about it, perhaps this is true of all that lives. Even in the plant world, a detour or blockage in one direction is the impetus for redirected growth.
Dennis Pitocco, you have this absolutely uncanny way of sending my ,words back to me just when I need to hear them! I hope that other people resonate with them as well. Thanks to you, today is already a good day.
And your words are without question, precisely what so many others need to hear to lift them up, my friend!
Gosh I hope so. I sent the link via text to a bunch of people AND sooooo many have responded that it is just what they also needed right now. Grateful for the way this is rippling out.
