One of the most stressful parts of the job-hunting process is the face-to-face interview. Many want to strike a balance between professional and likable but fear how every aspect of their persona—from physical appearance to what they discuss about their personal lives—could affect their interview success.
A new study by JDP revealed how both men and women experience the interview process. While the study revealed both genders share many of the same concerns and experiences, there are still some areas of discussion that men and women experience very differently. For example, 63-percent of all respondents believe they’ve benefitted from their physical appearance in some way, with one-in-five people going so far as to say their interviewer even flirted with them. Roughly one-third of people say they feel uncomfortable discussing their personal lives if and when the topic comes up. However, when you break it down by gender, men feel much more comfortable than women. Some of the least comfortable topics of conversation are relationship status, family lives, and even social media.
