It’s been a time …
a rough and emotionally fragile
expanse of days of not knowing
lost in confusion and conflicting
ideas and options and opinions
dazed by a profusion of
potentially ominous outcomes
forced to let go of even the most
insubstantial illusion of control
reduced to despair
surrendering into prayer
a truly dark night of my soul
when the gaping hole of impossibilities
loomed all too large
hour after hour
slouched on the couch
curled up in a world of worry
with only my meager offerings
an ABC of simple words –
“Thy will be done. Show me.”
“If I am meant to be
here and now, show me.”
“If I am meant to stay
vitally alive, show me.”
And indeed I am being shown.
How amazing. How miraculous.
How inspiring. How hope-giving
and spirit-lifting.
And what is mine to do is simply pay attention
and say Thank you.

Awesome poem! We can only deal with the things we notice. We miss out on alot in this life i think! We are all on a journey. May the light lead everyone’s way along it. I hope you find the peace you seek!
Eva Marie, for me, peace is a bit of a moving target. I get there and experience it and then something happens and I have to find my way back again and again. Maybe that is the life journey – finding and losing and finding our way again and again. And just maybe the more often we seek and find, the more adept we get at finding our way home.
This poem is only days old and the words take on new meaning and relevance by the hour. My hope is that anyone on a difficult journey finds their own way to ask to be shown a way to keep on keeping on.
Thank you Dennis Pitocco for being willing to share my inner meanderings and outpourings.
Rest assured that your poetry provides comfort for so many others, my friend. Keep it coming “for good” …
It’s so interesting that you say that because I have gotten at least a dozen calls in the last few hours since the poem went live… Others who are dealing with their own journeys and find comfort and inspiration in what I shared. So thank you for nudging my shy soul into the light.
