Our client Belinda called us.
“Ack!” she said. “I was on the phone with a company recruiter. She was asking me questions about my background. I was happily chatting away, comfortable as can be. It wasn’t even a scheduled phone interview — she just called me when I happened to be walking in my front door. I had sent a resume about a week ago.”
“That sounds good,” we said. “Why did you say ‘Ack!’?”
“Here’s why,” said Belinda. “Walking in the door, hanging my coat in my front hallway closet and slipping out of my shoes, I suddenly realized that I hadn’t updated my LinkedIn profile for my job hunt. My resume is up to date — the resume I had sent this recruiter in response to her job ad — but not my LinkedIn profile. It’s totally different from my resume.
“I only realized that when the recruiter started asking me questions about my knowledge of social media. I’ve been working in social media for a year, but I never updated my LinkedIn profile. How could I forget to do that?”
“So what happened?” we asked.
