My biggest fear about this new platform was about The Inspired Work Program itself. How would we produce the same outcomes? How could we protect the profound aspect of the program that causes so many people to change their lives? Early this year, I was counting on at least nine months to carefully move forward. The pandemic changed everything.
We delivered the first virtual program three months ago. It was just as impactful and profound and most importantly, effective. No one had to fly to Los Angeles and people who live here didn’t have to drive to a hotel. I was so stuck that as we completed, I reached to my phone to call valet parking!
Just before one of these programs, someone called me and said, “My biggest fear is that this experience will turn my life upside down.”
I responded, “Then perhaps you have a life worth turning upside down.”
Some of us can look at the technology and believe it is taking away our income.
Others can look at the same technology and believe it is offering us freedom. In other words, we can be pushed by the pain or pulled by a better vision.
Today, one of the greatest opportunities in front of us is to make a living from the work we most love. Looking backward, most of us will find destruction and decay. But, if we study the people who are succeeding in this new landscape, they insist on devoting their lives to something that is meaningful or fun or profound or contributive or that brings smiles to their lives every single day. Sometimes, I get all of that.
As technology continues to grow and change the world, don’t wait to change. For most, we cannot afford to do that one more day. Being happy with our work, that isn’t reserved for the elite. In fact, it becomes more important for all of us. Why? I believe it is clear to many of us that the world needs our help. As technology takes over tasks, what gets left behind? Problems. Find the one you would like to solve.
Some of the workers that have been laid-off from the assembly lines believe they have run out of choices. But, Japanese and German auto manufacturers continually train their workers to assume new roles. Sometimes, really getting fed up is the last precursor to changing our lives. I’ve been following assembly line workers that instead of joining picket lines have bought a couple of 3-D printers into the spare bedroom and started a business. One of these guys is building customized parts for old Rolls-Royces and Bentleys.
As some of us cry that we have lost our ability to make a living, a family takes one dachshund, starts a YouTube Channel called Caruso the Celebrity Dachshund, and generate $500k per year. Change the mindset and instead of getting pushed by the pain you might be surprised to be pushed by the vision.
Celebrate progress as it gives families countless options for education, and scientists find themselves curing the world’s worst diseases. Over the last few months, we actually looked up, and instead of seeing smog saw clear blue air, and animals that were gone come back because it was safe.
Every single day, I am reminded that we live in a turning point filled with peril. If we hang onto the past, we go down with it. But, how has the waiting game worked out?
Take action. That’s how we take charge.
Don’t wait for others to show you your unique purpose in life! Define that purpose and go find the people that can help you.
But, in a world filled with a wealth of new options, only you can be the tailor. Your purpose is the one thing about you that others should not and can not tell you.
This time, only you can be the tailor. Just remember that if you need a new set of clothes, bring a good seamstress.
