Recently I was coaching a couple to address some situational issues they had been going through. As their Coaching engagement was getting over, some more deeply rooted issues got revealed which they wanted to address, and hence it was mutually decided that we continue the sessions and keep the duration open-ended.
After the final concluding session, an invoice was mailed to them for the additional X hours. Guess what happened?
They reverted saying my calculation wasn’t accurate, and they requested a revised invoice. The reason given was that an additional X + 2 hours had been spent. This left me in a state of awe.
Both of them have been my clients for a long time, and I’ve been witnessing their evolvement journey. Yet seeing this level of integrity I had so much more respect for them and also a sense of accomplishment, if I may say so.
- INTEGRITY is doing the thing that you said you will, and when you will.
- Integrity means being your word, being true to yourself, and thereby true to others. You will not compromise truth over what seems easy and quick.
- Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching, as was demonstrated so magnanimously by this couple.
- Integrity is a way of being. It is being true to who you are in every aspect of life. It will not allow you hypocrisy.
No wonder organisations seek leaders and employees who can be trusted. We seek a partner who is dependable and trustworthy.
People with integrity display wholeness of character. They have a strong sense of Self. They value their own time and that of others. They are generous in giving credit. They exhibit courage, regardless of the circumstances, while taking ownership of their actions. Integrity encourages you to speak the truth even when it may seem unpleasant or uncomfortable.
Integrity is an attribute one MUST inculcate, be it in a leadership role or a relationship.
In my view relationship includes how you relate to your partner, colleagues, employer, employee, family, children, your work, money, and to your own self.
Imagine the quality of life we’ll live when each one of us is living with integrity.
