The Wallace Collection in Manchester Square, London is my favorite museum and art gallery. Many Dutch and French artists’ works create such an atmosphere where wondrous scenes and portraits, project a high degree of tangibility. From the Battle of Waterloo to Frans Hal’s ‘The Laughing Cavalier’
This particular masterpiece ‘Innocence’ is by French artist Jean-Babtiste Greuze. (1725-1805).
A young girl is embracing a lamb which is a symbol of innocence, gentleness, patience and humility.
As one of the most famous paintings in the world it also made an appearance in a Sherlock Holmes novel.
Should anyone be in London, a visit is certainly recommended!
With acknowledgement to The Wallace Collection.
