Working a full day doesn’t always mean working the whole day. Quite some time is spent in procrastinating, deciding things, and trying to accomplish. Increasing work efficiency is one of the biggest tasks that people want to work on. Nobody likes to stay overtime to complete the task that could’ve been done in time if not the hour spent talking to your colleagues, or you were not having planned your tasks better over the day.
Becoming more productive throughout the day doesn’t only help the company; it helps you too. If you can meet all your deadlines, and keep your tasks running right on schedule, then that promotion might come earlier.
Here are some things to have on your desk to increase productivity –
- Planner
Planners help you have a clear idea of the tasks you have laid out for today. Write down in it the day before and keep in the open with you during work. A constant reminder of work can actually make you do it, plus if you want to add another work down, you can write in your planner, and that again is added to your schedule.
- Page Markers
When you use planners and write a lot of things down, things can get a little hectic. Using color coding technique can help. Best for busy days is putting in page markers so that you know which page to turn to every time. Your schedules, notes, planners, drafts, everything can remain organized and easy to access.
- Clock or Timer
Setting a deadline for yourself is one of the ways people increase productivity at work. Deadlines give you that extra push needed to finish your work. Set a timer on the clock that you can check now and then. Using a phone is a mistake because while checking the time, you will end clicking on one of the notifications and then get sucked into the rabbit hole of social media.
- Earphones / Headphones
If listening to soothing music helps you work, then you do you. But it is mostly advised against. Although if you have a noisy colleague or one of those you pass by your desk ten times a day and stop to talk to you every time, then having a headphone is a great idea. Use noise canceling ones, or just the regular; you don’t have to listen to anything. It just helps as the universal don’t talk to my symbol.
- A picture that inspires you
It can be anything, a picture of anything; the only thing it has to do is inspire you. It can be a quote from a book, movie, TV series, or something that means a lot to you. It can be a picture of a car or a house that you want to buy; it can be a picture of your family; any photo that motivates you to do more, to achieve more things.
These things are easy to have on your desk without being much of a distraction, and also getting the work done.
