COSTCO ORDERED the book “America” to be taken off their shelf. Someone sent an email with a link to a July 7th article, and I was totally incredulous. I was certain that it was a mistake, and that someone what playing partisan politics to rile us up more, as if we need that!
So I went to google and found a couple more articles, one of which was from the Washington Post, a fairly credible source for news.
[Whoops…as I was going to look for the link to the Post article, a new one appeared with a date stamp 7/8/14 at 11:46am saying that Costco has made the decision to reverse the decision not to carry the book. Their explanation was that, since they are not a bookstore and have limited space for books, the chose based on what their customers are buying. They said the book wasn’t selling]
[Whoops again….apparently the thousands that went online to protest crashed their website.]
Mr. D’Souza graciously said in one of the articles that he and his publisher had an excellent relationship with Costco, and he was certain this was a mistake that would be fixed quickly.
Never mind my political leaning because, quite frankly, I’m not sure myself these days. This isn’t, or shouldn’t be, about politics. This should be about our country, our freedom and our heritage. Folks, this smacks of the book burning that occurred in Nazi Germany. Take away or revise anything that we don’t want people to read.
We have to stop these partisan politics NOW, or we will fall down the slippery slope that we’re already hanging over and it will happen so fast, we won’t know what happened.
Our freedom also means responsibility. It means taking responsibility for reading about the issue – not just listening to the 6 second sound bite on the channel that espouses your own political beliefs, therefore further cementing your antipathy toward the opposition. We have a sacred responsibility to understand the situation from all sides, and to make the best decision we can make at a given time.
This is serious business. We have become so divided as a nation that each side is trying to control their constituents by eliminating information about the other side.
Man oh man, we need to wake up quickly!

Hey Steve – I think you’re probably right but it saddens me. I just don’t remember this country being so divided as we are now. We’re losing what made us great, and it seems like we [I say collectively] just don’t care.
But your point is valid – I think there was once a saying…”power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This type of control is scary to me.
Carol, for the average politician, it has always been about control…and of course money. How else can someone with average wealth enter office and 6 or so years later come out a multimillionaire. Good deal if you can get it.
