I Believe….. What Is Your ‘Why’ In Business?

My philosophy in life is centered around the idea that the world works from the inside out. When we try to make things happen as a response to external circumstances, many times it seems to get harder or the results are not what we desire.

There are many theories within the field of psychology, self-development, leadership development and humanistic behaviors that will point us in various directions to explain why we do what we do or think the way we do.

In my own experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds and levels of professional status, the bottom line is we are all human. Human nature has specific patterns and there are definitive laws that govern how life unfolds around us.

In the case of leadership, what you believe becomes the belief of others. Even if you do not outwardly share your beliefs, they can be felt and understood on many other levels than the spoken word. The power of the mind to connect with others in influencing their behaviors and interactions is beyond just happenstance. There is a rhyme and reason to every cause and effect; action and reaction. Understanding, as a leader, it all begins with you. You are the central point from which success of the whole will emanate from.

You don’t believe what you see, you rather see what you have already decided to believe.

The Universal Law of Belief

This is a foundational law of life, where beliefs determine the intensity of your emotional experiences in relation to people, events and circumstances. There is a set of pre-programmed fundamental rules and emotional responses that are launched when triggers are set through specific conditions.

Behaviors are determined by our beliefs through conditioned responses and knowing what drives our thinking and convictions.

This universal law is a transforming principle that, if used correctly, will attract to you what you want most and create the best outcome desired.

The Inspiring Factor

Your purpose and belief in that purpose is your Why. Inspiring through the Why gives those you lead the ability to feel on purpose themselves and have a reason to get up in the morning. Greater morale and excitement to be a part of something bigger than just a paycheck will energize your organization.

Instead of operating from the outside in, look at your leadership style from the inside out.

  • WHY….do you believe in your leadership capabilities?
  • WHY….do you believe in your organization?
  • WHY….do you believe in those you lead?
  • WHY….do you believe in your product or service?
  • WHY….do you get up in the morning and choose to be a leader?
  • WHY….do you want to make a difference?

Consider your contribution to your own personal and professional growth. What you believe has an impact on this contribution. At what level are you vested in your WHY and how solid is your belief in this WHY?

Because of your strength in a compelling belief in yourself, your WHY, your organization, and your impact; not only will you feel fulfilled and on purpose, but those around you will also feel the same.

  1. Agree, we too often fail to look inside our selves for belief and understanding. Without understanding ourselves and what makes us tick, we can never manage/lead others. Self analysis, however, is often a painful experience and perhaps that is why many avoid doing it in any meaningful depth.

    • Ken, you could not have said it more perfectly! Self analysis can be painful, yet through the pain is the beauty of what comes out of the other side. Avoidance keeps people paralyzed, stuck and unhappy; whereas, understanding oneself in order to be understood is one of the most powerful gifts we can give ourselves.

What makes us tick is a key to what happens in our external world. Change our thinking and actions….we change our experiences, for the better.
