As I share a new perspective on Humility, you may wonder what the title refers to as the New Reality. From an evolutionary point of view, the New Reality I talk about is simply a shift in focus.
For thousands of years, we humans have looked out there in the world, the external, for our fulfillment, for what makes us feel good. Be it career, wealth, relationships, things, whatever. We looked outside of ourselves for stuff to make us happy. The shift in focus, which I refer to as the New Reality, is a shift from an external focus to an internal focus. That is where we look within for our very own happiness. We look to our Heart-Centered Knowingness for what makes us feel good. We exercise love, compassion, and understanding, among other things, because we are aware that what we feed the collective field within which we all exist, matters.
The New Reality is, in essence, living from the heart.
And so, for evolving humans, moving to or living in the New Reality, a new perspective of humility is needed.
In ancient times, people who were “humble” or exhibited any form of “humility” were generally looked down upon by others from their perspective of superiority, domination, greed, competition, might over right, the bases of the old world’s energy. The Catholic dictionary describes humility as lowliness or submissiveness, as in humble birth, humble beginnings – not worth much, poor. Religions have for years described humility as “a virtue by which man knowing himself as he truly is (no good, a sinner), abases himself.”
These definitions, indeed, support the old energy position that man, probably all humans really, are nothing but animals. It was about knowing your place, not reaching out or up to things above one. It was about submitting to one’s superior. Humility was seldom neutral but has also been described as lacking self-confidence or being timid, having a low opinion of oneself. However… that old perspective of humility is part of the old reality.
In our new world, our New Reality, having a balanced, steady, inner focus, gives evolving humans a new perspective on humility which is now an important part of our spiritual life for contemplation and integration.
This new perspective, which takes on the qualities of modesty, respectfulness, and egolessness, allows us to recognize that humility is actually an important tool in our evolutionary toolbox.
In the New Reality, humility goes hand in hand with self-confidence, self-understanding, awareness, openness, and perspective. Egolessness. Exercising humility as we shift from the old world, the old culture, to the new world, the new culture, will provide an effectiveness to our lives that we may never have experienced before.
