Does hot coffee
With cream
Taste different
In your mouth?
What about cold
Water or bursting
Blueberries, sweet,
Tangy?
Does a lover’s kiss not feel
Warm, tender,
Wet, sensuous, liberating
on your lips?
Do socks not make your
Feet feel safe, cozy
On a cold, autumn night?
Can you not feel the sun
On your face no matter
The complexion, lines,
Wrinkles, shade, tone,
Creases?
Do you not look into a starlit
Night sky and notice the sliver
Glow of the moon?
Does your body not
Heave and grieve like mine?
Doesn’t your belly
Digest food?
Your lungs expand with
Each breath?
When you hold a beloved one’s hand
does this not soothe your wild,
fluttering heart?
Do we not all know death,
Birth, sweat, and salty tears?
My Pain, Your Joy
Your Hurts, my Love.
Our
Humanity.
Laura, The poet in you captures out soul as your words are both powerful and tender. Poetry is the most healing form of writing and you my friend are a true poet.
Oh, thank you, Larry. Your words affirm, uplift, and open my heart. Never in my wildest imaginings did I ever know a poet lived inside of me and could be so gently set free. Thank you, my friend. I’m moved to tears. You are not the first to declare this to me, and each time I hear/read “you are a true poet,” I find myself humbled, grateful, honored.
This is so beautiful, Laura. First I read it from the perspective that all the answers should be yes. If so, what was happening? Then it sent me right back to the Merchant of Venice.
“When you tickle us, do we not laugh?”
Shared humanity through the ages.
Oh, thank you for your kind words, and reflections! I had forgotten about the Merchant of Venice! How perfect! Thank you for this, Charlotte!! Yes, indeed-“shared humanity through the ages.” 🙂
Goodness me, Laura. Such a moving poem. Words to lighten the heart, bring a tear to the eye, a sparkle to the senses. Truly amazing. The number of words multiply into volumes of sensuality, hurts and love and humanity. Thank you, Laura. So much.
Oh, thank you, Simon. Thank you, my friend.
Laura, you always being such comfort in all you say…and truly believe.
The closing is stunning
“ Do we not all know death,
Birth, sweat, and salty tears?
My Pain, Your Joy
Your Hurts, my Love.
Our
Humanity”
Thank you for adding a warm blanket to the chilly day I’m having 🙏
Bless you dear soul sister
