How To Start An Inner Revolution

Be a quiet and compassionate rebel, and allow your spiritual side to enter your life.

As my life fell apart on a physical level my whole perception of self, of life, of my own existence came tumbling down. I was led to ask myself some revealing questions, and to start an inner revolution. It was time, as might be for you.

Take a closer look around, and ask yourself:

Am I mindful and present as my day unfolds, and am I aware of how I live my life? Am I aware of my values and my contributions?

While juggling every part of a typical modern lifestyle, it is hard to stay fully present. Mindfulness is a rare trait amongst those who drift through life in stress and accomplishment mode. Is it possible to be mindful, enthusiastic, hard-working, focused and success-minded at the same time? I absolutely believe it is. You can set your goals, get out of your own way, and be aware of everything you live, from breathing to smelling the well-known roses.

Can you smell them on a daily basis? If not, start a revolution. Be a quiet and compassionate rebel, and allow your spiritual side to enter your life.

Our spirit is always free, and it is always there, which makes spiritual awakening hard to define. How can we define something that is beyond words? We mix in terms like enlightenment, which is defined as losing one’s perception of self, of identity with the ego. With this standard, not many humans qualify as enlightened. To be awake or not, that is the question. If we are not, then how do we wake up?

We are living in a world full of boundaries, on the outside as well as the inside. The awakening to the spirit world shows us a place where there are none. No boundaries at all. Complete freedom and bliss. Time ceases to exist, and the weight of the body diminishes. All our expectations, our rules, our restrictions and our limitations, all gone in a flash. We no longer feel overwhelmed or anxious. The feeling of abundance and unconditional love is all that exists. We are used to having love attached to some type of conditions and rules, while awakening to the spiritual world leaves us with the opposite. The feeling of nothing and everything, the feeling of unconditional love. A bit airy fairy for some, but a life-changer for those who experience it. Once you have felt and seen what spirit is, your life is changed, for the better.

The challenge is to live in both worlds at the same time. To be an awakened human, living in this world of so much tragedy and pain. How can we find peace and tranquility in such a world?

To be able to see with more than the physical eye will open a different perspective on life. The truth, the wisdom and the knowing all come together as one. From a perspective of living our dream and purpose here on planet earth, the spiritual connection is for many the missing link. They will realize that everything is within them, the whole of creation. There is no separation, nothing outside of themselves. Every experience is different. Some might meet their spirit guides, others experience seeing their spirit family and angels. Some find what feels like wisdom and infinite and innate knowing. Once the seed has been planted in our aware consciousness, it is forever with us. The expansion and continuous awakening become part of our lives. We have been introduced to our awareness in its natural state. A blessing that will open our hearts as we continue on our path. Eternity is a mighty large concept to discover. It blows the roof right off any earthly medium-sized “problem”. Our obstacles don’t quite seem as significant when we awaken to the larger picture.

Nothing is as humbling as the truth about who we really are. It changes how we look at everything.

Know yourself:

Whether or not we are spiritually aware in our daily routines, we are spiritual beings. Through practicing meditation and stillness, we will continuously keep reaching for that connection with ourselves, our spirit. To turn inward is to turn connected. By doing so we are reminded of our soul, our true purpose, and our truth. For some, practicing simple meditation techniques will give them a glimpse of the spiritual world. It will inspire to keep on practicing. The sweetness of peace and love will do that.

Celebrate your life by going on a silent retreat or a meditation and yoga retreat. Taking a few days by yourself in nature is a great alternative. Anything that takes you away from your other world, takes you closer to the inner and awakened one.

Get to know yourself from your inner most vulnerable place. Look for your most sensitive and private chambers, behind all the veils and shadows. Look for everything that makes your life what it is today, what forms your thoughts and your ideas. This is not about knowing your limitations or your material goals. It is not about your wants and regrets. It is about knowing who you are, besides pure consciousness.

  • What are your core values?
  • What are your pure and honest dreams?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Get to know your body. It is an extension of your life. It is created by your every breath, emotion, thought and physical nurturing. It is one out of many bodies, and most often the forgotten one. Wait a minute, how can we forget the body? It is so physical. Indeed, it is, and yet often seen as completely separate from who we are. Like a lonely mechanism, running its own show, without any connection to our spiritual being. It can do amazing things, get to know it, this amazing vehicle of ours.

The Tao says:

“One who knows other people are wise. One who knows himself is enlightened.”

Love everything:

Love beyond the self, the people you care about, the things you cherish and the places you are captured by. Love beyond your mind and comprehension. Your love is like the air and will sweep through any nation. It is like the water that will penetrate the smallest of spaces. It has no limits, no boundaries or restrictions. True love is limitless and unconditional. Nothing can defeat or break it. No true love will ever get old or boring. Love for life itself is an expansion of the love we hold for ourselves and others. It holds the all-that-is-I form of God and spirit. The language of creation is love and compassion, expressed through passion and purpose.

It becomes easy to be true to oneself and one’s life when we realize the amazing creation that we are a part of. The awakening is an ultimate bullshit killer. Going back to sleep is not an option. Being awake and aware is too much fun, and the impression left from feeling the touch of heaven is ever lasting. We are here for this split time in creation, to make a difference. We are here to find our way, through this veil of misinformation. Sometimes fully asleep, sometimes awake. An experimental journey of faith and courage. Trial and error through living and evolving.

How can a man, with his limited mind, ever find the reason for his existence and his behavioral patterns?

Only through touching upon spirit will we glimpse a heaven and a deeper understanding of where we come from. We are the blessings. We are the manifestations of true love. Hard to believe when we look around, yet behind the veil, we can find our way back to our spiritual self. Living is not only a blessing but a challenge. For a brief moment, we are here, surrounded by beauty and suffering, with a free will to change how we interact and contribute to all of it. The simplest things can have a profound outcome. I believe we can ripple this world into a new vibration. We can consciously choose to raise our vibration, hence that which of everything around us. Simply and mindfully.

What we can all do right now is simple:

  • Pick a flower
  • Admire a child
  • Make a difference
  • Walk barefoot
  • Show up
  • Be rebels
  • Stay strong
  • Live like we mean it
  • Cut the crap.

The journey called life is in large part about waking up. Seeing the truth is like opening your eyes after sleeping. A bit confusing, but freeing after a while. When the stress and uneasiness settles, it is such a pleasure to be able to rest in the life that feels so much closer to home.

Sometimes all we need is a private inner revolution.

“This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet.”

  1. Great Article Hilde . I think that the older I get the more I look inside. I think it is import that we have more that one side. It is great to go out and conquer our business world, or sports, or music. but in the end we must know our self.

    • Thank you Larry. I very much agree. I believe that everything we experience is an extention of how we feel and look at ourselves.
